Hello:I just purchased a large lot of pictures, all the same pic, that are approximately 20x16 (inches), landscape style. The description says, "AP 1105 ALDRIN & LM LEG ON THE MOON." Did NASA issue a litho this big? Is this size picture unusual? Worth anything? (No, I don't think I'll be able to retire on this garage sale buy. There wasn't a signed Irwin book there either.) Thanks for any information provided. BTW, you really appreciate the size of the LM in this picture. Regards, Jeff |

I have just finished a rummage through my suitcases of Apollo memorabillia and came across a 12" x 16" envelope which contained 6 - 12" x 10" (at least) photographs/lithos of Apollo missions. I managed to obtained these items from the widow of a collector who had recently died. She wanted them to go to someone who would appreciate them. So yes NASA did supply larger than 10" x 8" items. They will come out of my suitcase one day - when I have a bigger house with more room!Jacqueline |

You are right Jacqueline ... NASA did publish larger size Lithos especially NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory gave out a large collection of Planet photographs taken by the superb Voyager 1 & 2 unmanned spaceprobes ... I have one larger litho of the Apollo era showing the Apollo 1 to 11 crews ... Talking about UNMANNED spaceflight ... there hasn't been much talk about that on this forum ... Time to start a separate section ? |

In November 1969 I attended the American Stamp Dealers Association annual show in New York City. The US Government Printing Office had a booth at that show (only year they ever did to the best of my knowledge) showing various book, prints, maps etc. which they produced, and taking payment and orders for material to be sent (they had only samples, noting you could buy and take with you). On display was a set of 11x14 lithos, mostly color, of Apollo 11, and a somewhat larger single print of Aldrin & the LEM leg, which was sold seperately...for $1.25 I seem to rememeber. Well, I ordered both, as well as a copy of the hardcover book, "Exploring Space With a Camera". I have one of the A-11 prints before me, it's the shot of the flag from the LEM window, there's no GPO number, just the word description and the NASA photo number 69-HC-662. The rest of the set and the larger Aldrin Print arte buried "somewhere". Through the mail I then received an offer to purchase a similar set of Apollo 12, which I did. All prints in this set bear in the lower left corner a star and "GPO:1970 0-375-846". this set was not as spectacular as the A-11 set, so I did not order any further sets..if they were even created and/or offered to me. I am glad I ordered the A-12 set though, as Charlie Conrad signed a number of them for me (as well as the A-11 flag print) just days before his untimely passing. Doc | |
