Recently acquired from Heritage is this Apollo 10 flown Silver Snoopy presentation. Any opinions? Any other similar examples of the custom Apollo 10 patch-shaped wood display because I have never seen another. |

Interesting presentation. Which Snoopy variant is it? |

Difficult to determine the variant because the back of the pin is hidden. |

Wondering how many Silver Snoopy pins were flown on Apollo 10. Certainly more than two, as previously stated/estimated by the crew. |

For what it's worth and it might be nothing, NASA's biographical data sheet for Kenneth Kleinknecht does not list the Silver Snoopy among his awards and honors. It might be prudent to inquire with Heritage if the plaque was consigned by Kleinknecht's estate or if it came from a third party. |

Our very own Larry McGlynn has discussed flown Snoopy pins with two or more crewmen from each Apollo flight. He should be able to shed some light on Apollo 10 flown Snoopy pins.Over to you Larry. |

For reference, Larry's audit of the Apollo flown Silver Snoopy pins can be found in this thread. |

If I didn't already have a flown Apollo 10 Snoopy pin, then I would have been a bidder on this piece. Last night, I did ask General Stafford about the plaque and he said the Kleinknecht was a good friend and the crew gave him a Snoopy. The General did say they carried several Snoopy pins on the Apollo 10.Even without the General's comments, I would believe that the pin and the plaque are legitimate as they look like they came from the JSC machine shop. To further confirm the piece, you should ask Mike Riley at Heritage if he will tell you if the consignor was a relation of Mr. Kleinknecht. That is what I would do, but at the price it was a great pick up. |

So that would then account for the two pins flown on the mission (assuming the plaque did originate from Kleinknecht's estate). But then that raises a question: Chris Spain's guide to the Silver Snoopy pins already lists (at least) two Apollo 10 flown Silver Snoopy pins having been sold. The site has record of four auctions, all identified as originating from Stafford's personal collection: - Christie's 1999
- Christie's 2001
- Heritage 2008
- RR Auction 2018
Assuming all of those sales were correct in their provenance, then they could have all been for the same pin changing hands over the years. The site also lists a pin being purchased directly from Stafford in a private sale. No date is given (it is listed between the 2008 and 2018 sales), but unless it predated 1999, then that would suggest this was a second (at least), different pin from the one (or more) auctioned as listed above (as it is unlikely Stafford bought back the pin at some point). And now we have the Kleinknecht pin. So if all are authentic, then Apollo 10 flew more than two pins? |

Robert, I understand where the two Snoopy pin number came from and I no longer have a true idea of the number, but Stafford indicated to me the other evening that "We carried a lot of Snoopys." I have to go with his comments which are listed below. Larry, Ken Kleinknect was in the top management at NASA-JSC [MSC} then. He was a friend and did a good job on Apollo so I am sure the crew carried a pin for him. We carried a lot of Snoopys. |
