Can anyone recommend an expert that will write a Certificate of Authenticity.I have four flown shuttle landing gear tires that have been verbally confirmed as flown (based on serial numbers/flight manifest) by a space memorabilia expert. In the past, some flown tires were painted white by NASA and were taken to various NASA sponsored events for public to sign on. Even though the expert I spoke with confirmed the flown status, he wasn't familiar with "painted and public signed" part, therefore he hesitated to write a COA. Also, does anyone know what these abbreviations mean? They are tire related: LH1B, RHOB, RH1B. - Endeavour flown tire: STS-118 (serial 5154U09015)
- Endeavour flown tire: STS-118 (serial 5153U09601)
- Columbia flown tire: STS-94 (serial 5269N00666)
- Columbia flown tire: STS-94 (serial 5270N00372)p
Please let me know what you think. — David Babayan |

Could be perhaps: - LHIB (not 1B): Left Hand Inboard
- RHOB: Right Hand Outboard
However, there should be an indication whether the tires are from the main gear or the nose gear. Jenkins uses in his tables "Left Main Outboard," "Nose Gear Left Tire" and so on. |

Right Hand In Board (so probably an "I" and not a "1"), Left Hand Out Board, etc. |

I would surmise that since each set of main landing gear has two tires those abbreviations mean the following, but I'm sure someone like Ken Havekotte would be able to confirm. - LH is left-hand
- RH is right-hand
- IB is inboard
- OB is outboard

From Jenkins' three volume opus, page II-96 to II-97: - Endeavour flown tire = STS-118 (serial 5154U09015): Left Main Inboard
- Endeavour flown tire: STS-118 (serial 5153U09601): Right Main Outboard
- Columbia flown tire: STS-94 (serial 5269N00666): Right Main Outboard
- Columbia flown tire: STS-94 (serial 5270N00372): Left Main Outboard
Does it fit with the abbreviations you found? Maybe the H is rather an M? |

Yes, it falls in place now, "1" is "I". Left Hand Inboard, Right Hand Outboard etc...Dietrich, is this the book, "Developing an Icon," you are referring to? Volume 2, pages 96-97? So, you were able to match these serials to STS mission numbers accordingly? Thank you for your time. |

I got my book today, it is confirmed, these are what they are. Very Happy. - Endeavour flown tire = STS-118 (serial 5154U09015): Left Main Inboard
- Endeavour flown tire = STS-118 (serial 5153U09601): Right Main Outboard
- Columbia flown tire = STS-94 (serial 5269N00666): Right Main Outboard
- Columbia flown tire = STS-94 (serial 5270N00372): Left Main Outboard
Thank you all for your contribution. Dietrich, I can not thank you enough... |
