Does any one know why there are suddenly all of these Apollo 11 Beta cloth patches in "original" Owens Corning/Roma Chemicals envelopes on eBay? When were they made? Are they even real? There have been a lot of them going up for sale in the last few months. |

As I understand it one or more cartons of them were found at an old Roma Chemical site. Some were damaged by exposure to damp etc but many were in good condition.I don't know how many were recovered but it's certainly dozens and could be hundreds. The market for Apollo 11 beta cloths is going to be flooded for some time to come so $50 to $75 is probably the going rate now. |

I picked up two at great prices. One to open and one to keep in the envelope. The actual beta cloths are in great condition. |

I picked some up too. They are in great shape. There is also a slight smell that reminds me of my grandma's attic! |

I too was wondering why the sudden influx of Apollo 11 beta cloth patches. Bought one from a cS poster here a few months ago. Now I see I can buy five on eBay for about forty dollars more than what I paid for one. By no means am I complaining, the one I received from the cS member is very nice and a smooth transaction. As an attorney, I don’t need to be reminded of caveat emptor. |

Is anyone that bought in bulk interested in selling off one of them? I really don’t need five of them, but have not seen a single one sell for anywhere close to $40 each. I hate to pay triple digit prices for a patch that I know is selling at such a low cost in bulk. |

I too would be interested. In all of the variations of A-11 I've collected, I have yet to add any beta cloth patches!Or, to go the other way, if I was to buy a lot, how many folks would be interested in the extras? I wouldn't need/want five either... |

Two things. First, I plan to keep two. So I'll only sell three. And I've had two people email me directly for two of those confirming they want one. So I have one left to sell. I've not decided on a price yet, but rest assured that it won't be much more than to cover my costs since this is for fellow cS'ers! Second, if you want to take a chance on eBay, I just found this: 322841117922. Current bid is like $37, with a buy it now price of $90. Or, 142536235082, with a best offer price of $165. Your choice. |

Thinking about stepping up here. After Gonzo receives a commitment for his last patch. I am thinking about purchasing one of the remaining lots. I will keep two also, and if I get three commits, I will buy one lot.Note 27 hours left before auction closing. |

Any luck with this? I saw one lot of five at $199.99 ended and the price raised to $299.99 by eBay user "themoonthestars." I think somebody read about the plan here. |

I've recently seen a Beta cloth Apollo 11 patch supposedly from the original company still sealed in the packet. I'm not sure, are these as they would have been made during the mission on real Beta cloth? Hope you can shed some light on the matter. I've took a look on crewpatches.com to try to see, but it's like most things I've learned, there's a lot of reproductions and rubbish that has been passed off as original. It's still the same seller working through the same stock. Over 500 sold now and the going rate is down around $20 per patch for lots of 3, sometimes less. |

It is amazing how one person can find a stockpile of collectibles and drive the price down to almost nothing on an item that was once fairly rare.I remember paying almost $100 for a single Apollo 11 Beta and thinking I got a deal. Ahh good times. Tom Foley's stockpile of event covers had the same effect on collectible covers I am sure there are other examples. |

When you read this seller's description it states the condition is graded as "B". You most likely will get patches that are moisture stained or tattered somehow. Hence the big discount. |

Mine turned up today. The cloth and print are pristine as far as I can tell. The envelope and clear plastic window are a bit tired but hey for 20 bucks it's a good buy. |

Has anyone bought one of these lately? As I understand it, a large quantity of these were found and have hit the market. I purchased one and just received it. Mine looks a bit "off." Just curious on others' thoughts.Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Mine looks fine. How do you mean by "off"?As mentioned earlier the description states the condition of some as fair. My cloth looks great but the sleeve is a bit tired. |

I've had/got about 150 of the original envelope-packaged Owens Corning and Roma Chemicals Apollo 11 Beta fabric panels (just saw this topic), and did let go about 45+ of them throughout the last few years. I did charge more for them a while back, but nowadays with so many of them on the market, I've got some of them at $35 postpaid within the USA. |

Attached below is a pic of the one I just received. This one will be discarded. I'm not aware of counterfeits, correct? |

Why would you discard it? I have seen Beta cloth patches in far worse condition that have been treasured parts of personal collections. |

Did it come sealed in a Roma Chemicals envelope? What makes you think it is counterfeit? |

No not sealed but from the same seller as the other ones on eBay. Maybe he is inspecting them and selling the "others" as singles? |

I think you can be sure that it's authentic. I purchased several of these patches from the seller last year, and we talked a bit about them. When he obtained the case, he found that some of the envelopes had water damage, but that the patches inside were mostly OK. So he opened all of the water-damaged patches, discarded the envelopes, and sold the patches alone. It looks to me like your patch was stuck to the plastic film of the envelope, removing a bit of the ink on removal. So the condition isn't as perfect, but it's still authentic. There's actually a lot of variation in these patches, even in mint condition. The colors were printed separately, so slight variations occur. I own about 20 of these, and every one is slightly different from the rest, based on shifts in the printing position. Some have bolder outlines, mis-alignments, etc. As far as I know, there haven't been any forgeries of any Beta Cloth patches. |

I purchased 12 of these in the envelopes and whilst some of the envelopes were slightly battered the patches all appear to be in excellent condition aside from some of the staples being rusty. For $16 each a patch these are amazing value and well worth putting aside for a few years until values recover. |
