I recently acquired my first Neil Armstrong autograph, a signed index card. I vetted it with Mr. Zarelli and it checked out. In trying to decide how to get it framed, the thought crossed my mind to try to also acquire a Buzz Aldrin and a Michael Collins signed index card and assemble an Apollo 11 collage.

My questions, then, are what are reasonable prices to expect to pay for these two signatures on index cards, and are they readily available? I've seen plenty of (purported) Armstrong signed index cards, a moderate amount of Aldrin exemplars, and very few of Collins.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts on this.

Commonly used by through the mail collectors, I think the number of signed index cards is likely proportional to how much one signed through the mail. So, I agree with your observations about Armstrong being the most available and Collins the least.

While Collins is in good supply due to paid signings for the last decade, not many collectors are going to pay $300+ and send in an index card. Although, I suspect that may be the easiest way for you to obtain a signed Collins card. Maybe you could get one for around $200 on the secondary market, but you may have to wait a while.

With Aldrin, would a signed page suffice? You could probably get a signed book for under $100. You'd just need to wait for one that had plenty of white area around the signature.

I recall signed copies of Encounter at Tiber selling for barely more than cover price at one time.

Thanks for the feedback, Steve. A cut from a book would likely be acceptable, especially since Aldrin signed books are fairly plentiful and can be acquired for a reasonable price. A Collins book, on the other hand, from what I've seen, goes for a pretty penny and is often personalized. I'd have a hard time spending good money and then cutting up the title page on such an item.

I guess I was just looking for some feedback. I'll likely just get the Armstrong framed by itself rather than sinking several hundred more dollars into it.

Aldrin signed index cards are plentiful — one sold on eBay a month or so ago for around $40 bucks.

All times are CT (US)
