Here is the opening statement on this helmet on eBay:
Prototype helmet stowage bag (HSB) and lunar extravehicular visor assembly (LEVA) commissioned by NASA in 1972 in preparation for Apollo 16.
What is this really?

All I can add is that it sold on eBay for about $2,000 a couple of months ago. I believe that back then there was a more complete write-up in the description, but I could be wrong.

I thought I had seen this listed before, but with more photos. This time it seems to have been sold to highest offer now. Would you have any details of the earlier eBay listing by any chance? Interested in a detail of the bubble.

If the winner only wants the bag, I'll happily make an offer for the bubble, just in case you're reading this! Send me an email.

Happy New year all.

Based on the photos on the auction site, I believe there was no bubble helmet with that listing.

The bag was a mockup stowage bag for a Skylab Extravehicular Visor Assembly (SEVA). The photos of the documents showed the helmet bag as a SEVA bag. I can only assume the seller came up with the idea of an Apollo 16 connection due to the date of 1972 on the document. However the wording on the document clearly identifies the bag as a mockup SEVA bag. The bag looks slightly different from the flight configuration.

The helmet/visor is another story. There is no metal neck ring, the helmet pad is covered with crumpled aluminum foil, and the helmet is just a partial shell with the entire front cut out. The shell is too wide for an Apollo helmet and appears to be something cobbled together for a walk around type of suit or for showing to school kids. The only real hardware is the metal visor pivots which appear to be scavenged from an Air Force project.

I presume the only value is in the helmet storage bag.
