Thanks for the help here. I've talked to Michael/Bill and I would prefer if the box comes back to me so I can restock and reboot the grab-bag as a fresh start because it has been a little while for everyone. This should help clean up the process and rules and hopefully create a clear path for who is in line and where the box needs to go when it starts up. |

The grab bag has been sent to thisismills, the originator of the U.S. Grab Bag, and has been received. He is in the process of refurbishing it and I am told will post his updates when sent to the next recipient on roll call list.

Is the grab bag going to continue or not? Just curious since there hasn't been any post since it was returned. |

Thanks for the follow up. I've been overdue for an update on how the grab bag will proceed. I'd like to discuss how best to move forward before sending it out again.Based on feedback gathered from the last rounds, I think some updates to the process could provide an even better experience. Summary of most common feedback, in no particular order: - Larger items like printed or photo-copied paperwork, brochures, and books are less exciting than smaller things like patches, stickers, pins, badges, postcards, covers, photos, etc.
- The cost of Large Box flat-rate priority shipping has increased to $21.50.
- The items smell like smoke.
- There isn't a good way to know where the box is at any given time.
- Items are for people's collections or gifts, instead some listed on eBay very soon after being removed from grab bag.
From this, I've come up with a few potential changes and would like to hear back from members on what is reasonable to update or leave the same. - Suggest that we change the size of the box to make it more economical for shipping. Either a Medium box for $16.10, or Small box for $9.45 are available options. Naturally the Medium and even more so Small box would all but eliminate large photos, paperwork and books, and have just the smaller items. Is this smaller format appealing or not? Are there better shipping options besides USPS?
- Suggest that anyone who is a smoker, either refrain from participating or limit their exposure to the box in a way to reduce the impact to the items as much as possible. This could also include asking them to not place items from their collection into the grab bag and only remove things they want to take. Is this fair for everyone or not?
- Suggest that each person who has just received the box update that status in the grab bag discussion post. Also suggest creating a new and separate cS thread to capture the recipients for each round to eliminate confusion. Is this a reasonable requirement for participating or not?
- Suggest that anyone who wishes to participate do so in the spirit of not selling or auctioning items. And while this could never be prevented, further reinforce that the grab bag is not intended for this purpose and out of respect for the members should be discouraged. Is this fair to ask of those that participate or not?
One additional topic is that several members reached out after the box was found, saying that they would be sending me items to re-stock. Unfortunately I have not received any of these shipments and am unsure if anything was actually sent to me. These refills would have helped but nonetheless re-stocked, removed unwanted things, and aired out the items to the best of my ability.I'd like to let members respond here for a week and then decide what the next step is. Thanks for the help and really appreciate the support from all of you, — Jeff |

Personally I don't mind the large box and cost. Mainly for the books and photos. One issue was the advertisement material in the box. I can see maybe two or three of an item but 10 copies was just more like trying to get rid of your trash, to be blunt.I agree with the other suggestions but let's keep the same size box. FYI, whoever put the rocket ink pens in, loved them, took three. |
