There is interesting history behind this baseball. The ball used to belong to a man now deceased named James R. Williford III, hence the inscription: "To Jimmy". His father, James R. Williford Jr. was a friend of Scott Carpenter's way back before Scott's Mercury flight. In fact, Scott Carpenter referred to Jim Williford as "My first and best Naval Aviation Buddy." I know this because I also own the copy of "For Spacious Skies" that Carpenter personally signed and dedicated to Williford. If you refer to page 123 of "For Spacious Skies," you will see that Scott mentions Jim Williford. I love the history behind this baseball and thought others may enjoy it too. |

The baseball is still available. It was purchased as part of a small lot that contained other items I wanted for my collection. It's a great item that displays nicely. I just don't collect signed baseball's. I will consider any offer. Thanks. |
