Space-coins.com is very proud to announce the release of the first ever medal that contains flown material from all six Space Shuttle in ONE medal! The flown material isn't simply melted into the medal but you can actually see it! This medal has many firsts when it comes to medals with flown material: - it contains flown material from all six space shuttle in ONE medal
- the material is not simply melted into the medal but you can actually see it
- it is serialized with a very low mintage of only 981 (the mintage of 981 honors the very first Space Shuttle start in 1981)
- it has a matching legal tender coin (2012 Cook Islands, $1 Space Shuttle coin)!
- it has the biggest ever size of any medal with flown material - 2.5" in diameter (63mm), 5mm thick and it weighs 2.6oz (75 grams)!
Quality product made exclusively for space-coins.com by Winco International (Winco produces many of the official NASA medals with flown metals). Available here for $79.95, with discounts for multiple orders and a discount for a matching Cook Islands $1 legal tender coin set! |

Just to give you an idea about the size of this medal — you can compare it here to an (commonly known) Apollo 11 MFA medallion:

Without Enterprise there would have been no successful shuttle program. It was a vital part and needed to be included...Plus I am a huge Star Trek fan, so not including Enterprise was not really an option. |

I just received my set (one medal and one coin). WOW! Must be the most impressive medal with flown material I have seen so far!Very big and heavy compared to everything else out there (plus the material is actually visible and the very low mintage!). The coin is also very nice — makes a perfect set. So far the highlight of my collection! |

I got a couple of these (I like to display medals and if I can afford two, it's nice to show face and back) and they are really pretty cool. I really like the idea of having flown metal from every shuttle and it is interesting how it's been embedded onto the surface of the medal--it makes it more 'real' somehow. Usually, when I get a flown metal coin, it's mostly concept--we know that the quantity of flown metal is just a few molecules perhaps in the actual final coin...it's the idea that some part of history was blended into the coin that we like. But here, the actual metal is visible, can be touched. It seems somehow more substantial and well, "real." Anyway, these are cool pieces. I really like the heft and balance of the big medal and as always, Winco does a good job in the deep engraving style. So a good piece, both in production and more importantly, in concept. It's definitely a one of a kind piece! |
