As part of the second annual SpaceFest held at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York, several astronauts were on hand to give lectures and meet the public in the museum. One venue they could answer questions in was the newly reopened Space Shuttle Pavilion featuring OV-101 Enterprise and many artifacts and displays tracing her career and that of the shuttle program.

The astronauts who took part in SpaceFest were former astronauts Jeff Hoffman and Ellen Baker, and non-active astronauts Mario Runco, Lee Morin and Charlie Camarda. I attended lectures by Hoffman and Baker where they outlined their NASA flight experiences and gave some insights, especially by Hoffman, about NASA's future plans for exploration.

All were available for autographs at the lectures they gave or near the touring NASA display on show for the duration of SpaceFest. Camarda especially seemed eager to interact with the youngsters who came to his table for autographs, and even challenged one young girl to some hand dexterity moves.

They also had exhibits on the pier side of the museum, including robots and displays by sponsoring companies.

I didn't go this year. Partly because other plans cropped up, but also because of the difficulties in trying to find out what astronauts would be in attendance what day - it seems like a schedule wasn't available until a few days beforehand.

As well, I had seen and met all four the year beforehand (and last year personally met Truly, which was a bonus.)

All times are CT (US)
