Space Cover of the Week, Week 803 (April 27, 2025)

Space Cover 803: Kenmore Stamp Company Sheet

Collectors of Apollo mission covers are familiar with the classic and very popular set of Apollo mission related covers from the Kenmore Stamp Company. The covers presented cachets of wood-cut images from Jules Verne's novel "From the Earth to the Moon" (1868).

The Kenmore covers were cancelled at Cape Canaveral. The Kenmore cover for the Apollo 12 moon landing is shown below.

Much harder to find is the Apollo 12 Kenmore Stamp Company sheet for Apollo 12.

Shown at the top of the post, the sheet is titled "Five Generations From Imagination to Reality..." and is postmarked with a Cape Canaveral hand cancel for the Apollo 12 launch date.

I have not seen sheets for any other Apollo mission. There has also been talk of a Kenmore Stamp Company album for the covers, but I have not seen it either.

So if you have any information on other mission sheets (or different Apollo 12 dates) or have a Kenmore album please share the information and/or images.

I'm not at all familiar with the Kenmore Stamp Co. sheets nor their covers. Interesting sheet and cover and information about Kenmore. So much was produced and collected back in those exciting early space program and collecting days.

Tom, first time I see a Kenmore sheet. So,I cannot help you in this request.

Please, let me add to this post other Kenmore covers.

Above both covers for Apollo 11 first day cover with usual image of Jules Verne book. Complete and partial, almost gone, mechanical first day cancel.

And finally this giant cover for Apollo 11.

I too, had never noticed the Kenmore Stamp Co. covers. After an intensive search through my collection I came up with this single example for the "Safe Return of Apollo 13."

I remember that when I bought it, I was pleased to see the fortuitous coincidental line through "Apollo 13 Moon Landing" caused by the lower killer bar of the cancellation.

As far as a I know, Kenmore Stamp Company is still active after nearly 90 years of philatelic services. Their Apollo 11 first day cover in Sept. 1969 (C76) was the firm's first space-related cachet cover issue (2 cachet types), of which I have two of the standard cover sizes (does anyone want an extra of mine?), but never heard of their stamped company sheets.

I love the cachets, however, Kenmore printed a two-line text in the middle of the C76 cover that interferes or distracts (at least to me) with the postal cancellation area. I'll try to locate other later Apollo flights by Kenmore, but as Tom pointed out, the sheets must be very limited and extremely hard to find.

Just in: Located a Kenmore for Apollo 17's moon landing in Dec. 1972 with a Cape machine cancel. Does anyone want to see it here and still checking further for others.

Yes, please post images Ken.

(Plus I'd love to have your Apollo 11 spare cover. 🙂)
