Space Cover 362: Viking Mars Landings

1976 was the year of the U.S. Bicentennial as well as the Viking Mars Landings. With the 40th anniversary of the Mars Landings, I thought I would show covers relating to the landings.

The Viking Orbiters went into Martian orbit on June 19 and August 7, 1976. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) through their stamp club issued some very attractive covers.

The above covers were autographed by Orbiter Scientist at JPL, Dr. Conway Snyder.

The above covers were autographed by the Orbiter Performance Analysis Group Chief at JPL, Ron Ploszaj.

I invite others to post their favorite Viking covers.

Fun fact: Many years ago, Jim Rose told me that the JPL Stamp Club cachets for Mars orbit insertion (the ones in John's post) were the very first JPL Stamp Club cachets.

All times are CT (US)
