Space Cover #168: Shuttle Crew Escape Sled TestsThe Space Cover of the Week commemorates the Shuttle Crew Escape Sled tests. Before the Approach and Landing Tests (ALT) flights of the Orbiter Enterprise were flown, a series of sled tests were conducted to test the ejection seats to be used during the ALT flights as well as the Orbitial Flight Tests (OFT). These tests, nine in all, were conducted between December 1, 1976 and May 5, 1977 at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. These covers were serviced by Stan Henderson of 3-Muscateers Cachets. The covers were autographed by Sled Test Manager, USAF Captain Jerry Brewer. ------------------
