Space Cover of the Week, Week 152 (March 11, 2012) Space Cover #152: Payload specialist Robert WoodFor this week's Space Cover of the Week, I thought I'd show a cover and autograph that is not seen too often. The cover and photograph was autographed by McDonnell Douglas Electrophoresis Payload Specialist, Robert Wood. He was scheduled to fly on shuttle mission STS-61M in July 1986 aboard Challenger to operate the large electrophoresis processing factory in the payload bay. I acquired the autograph in early March 1986 and also received a handwritten letter from him. Since the mission was cancelled due to the Challenger accident, I subsequently had the cover cancelled for 23rd anniversary of Apollo 11 moon landing. Mr. Wood died on February 19, 2009 at the age of 51. ------------------ John Macco Space Unit #1457 |

Thank you very much for sharing this. It is very meaningful for me to see it; I am one of Robert's sons. Even though he never got to go to orbit, his love of space never dwindled. |
