Slightly off topic.

We all do an amount of corresponding often around the world. What do you do with the used postage stamps that arrive on the door mat? We used to use ours to raise money for Guide dogs, they no longer accept them. Many charities will make good use of used postage stamps. Some of them in the U.K. include:

  • RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind)
  • Smilies People (part of the National Association for Crohns and Colitis) It offers support to children and families suffering with Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis.
The equivalent organisations that collect for charitable fundraising probably exist all over the world.

Good question. I used to collect stamps. I'm still somewhat interested and appreciate when commemorative stamps are used on mail to me. I save these envelopes intact, but I really don't know what to do with them. I don't want to throw them away or sell them, but I would give them to a charity.

My family members and my workplace give me all stamps they receive (even generic ones) and they go to a homeless charity in the UK. I figure it really is just throwing money away not to donate used stamps in this way, and it only takes a moment to cut them off the envelope.

Since 1996, my Sons of Norway Lodge, Vegas Viking 6-152 has been collecting and sending used postage stamps, U. S. and foreign, to Tubfrim, a charity run by the Norwegian Health Association, that provides financial aid for the health and development of handicapped children and youth.

Tired of paying overseas postage costs? Send the stamps to Mickey and Roy Kristiansen, 2811 Glendevon Circle Henderson, NV 89014 Thanks.
