Space Cover of the Week, Week 109 (May 16, 2011)

Space Cover #109, Soyuz-28 Intercosmos Cosmonaut Vladimir Remek

Since there has not been many foreign covers in the Space Cover of the Week, I thought I'd show one cover and one photo from Czechoslovakia.

On March 2, 1978, the first Intercosmos cosmonaut was launched aboard Soyuz-28 to dock with the Salyut-6 space station. Vladimir Remek's flight was the 4th mission to Salyut-6 and the 3rd successful docking. Flight lasted 7 days 22 minutes.

Intercosmos was a space exploration program of the Soviet Union designed to include members of eastern bloc and communist countries in manned and unmanned space flights.

Yes, John, there have been very few foreign, non-US, space covers shown here on cS as part of our weekly Space Cover of the Week presentations. That is a shame, but the 6 of us who do these SCOTW presentations are from the US and primarily collect only US space covers.

We've invited others from outside the US to participate, even on just an occasional basis, but no results so far. Certainly there are huge numbers of excellent foreign space covers/stamps and it would be good to be able to start seeing some at least occasionally.

Hello from Czech Republic. I am one of many of your colleagues around the world. Also a collector, and a great enthusiast for space flights.

I am delighted that they have been proven post FDC envelope of the Soyuz 28-Vl.Remek. I did an exhibition with a colleague and as the primary guest, I had Mr. Remek.

On this occasion, the anniversary and to show the presence of Mr. Remek was a cover-certified mail label. You can also see here.
