What is the origin of this patch?

I cannot help much with the origin of this patch, but suspect this one may have been replicated from a decal or some other media rather than having been an actual embroidered patch from the Skylab era. My suspicion may be wrong, though.

The phrase "Ad Scientium" translates as "To Knowledge." I thought it might also translate as "Toward Knowledge" but that would be "Adversus Scientium" according to the translator I found on the Internet.
