That looks very similar, if not identical to the SR-71 pilot that was done years ago. It is an amazing figure.

Check with "Monkey Depot" and click on "preorders." They have the U-2 Pilot for $159.99.

There are several eBay auctions for the figure, which is in the $210 range. Although that's not cheap, the long-OOP 2003 BBI/Blue Box U-2 pilot is very expensive.

I have the original BBI/Blue Box U-2 Pilot figure, and from photos of the new Damtoys figure, they appear to be the same. There are some detail differences (such as Velcro on the front leg pocket), but it appears to be the same basic suit, helmet and ventilator. Also, some of the auctions are titled "Elite" or "Elite Force", which is Blue Box's label for their figures.

How did none of you notice the name on the suit patch? It's the character Eastwood played in "Space Cowboys!"

Sell the kid?

I must confess this figure is really neat (compared to Hobby Master's Eugene Cernan — neat too but different... oh, well) but not in the budget. Damn space comics of the 50s/60s.

I've asked the Flying Mule if they plan to carry this figure. I've been told that this is a replica of the original BBi figure. BBi doesn't do figures anymore.

I've pre-ordered one from Galaxy Hobby but have not heard when it will be shipping. It should be very soon.

is this thing ever going to come to market? I think they developed the SR-71 faster than this.

We're at the bottom of the pecking order. Military subjects - specifically SOF figures - rule the roost in that industry. I'll be surprised if it sells all that well, but i'm still thrilled we're getting it.

Was just informed (9/18) from Monkey Depot that they should receive the U-2 "Dragon Lady" figure next week. And anyone who pre-ordered should get a notice. Oh goody...

Received mine today. I'd been waiting to see how impressive it was "in the flesh" before I pre-ordered the forthcoming "SR-71 Test Pilot" and "Test Engineer" figures as well.

Short answer: YES and YES

In my opinion the figure is outstanding. Lots of included detail. The above posts show many different ways to display all the details.

Michael Key is working on a custom shoulder patch with the name Capt. Eldon Joersz (current all out speed record holder in the Blackbird). Also a new nameplate for the base that identifies the pilot as an SR-71 Blackbird pilot. (Both the U-2 and SR-71 used the same suit with only small differences.)

I will be mailing the "revised" pilot figure to Ret. Maj General Joersz shortly. He just celebrated the 40th anniversary of his record flight this July.

Here are NASA astronauts Victor Glover and Jessica Meir wearing a similar (the same?) suit for their flights in NASA's WB-57:

Yes, good observation Robert. It is the same S-1034 suit torso by David Clark Co, but without the integrated flotation and parachute harness vest. That is why it looks a little different.

Instead a standard USAF parachute harness is used with side mounted life preserver pouches for compatibility with the aircraft. Also the helmet is slightly different in that it uses a single oxygen supply, not redundant like the regular helmets for the S-1034 used in the U-2.

Is the Red Bull Stratos suit based on this U2 high altitude pressure suit?

That would be a great idea having such a Red Bull Stratos figure made by DAM Toys. But I guess its not possible to ask them to do so. We'll get to buy that figure here and make a configuration...
