New NASA-tribute Casio G-Shock watch has space history of its own

A new, limited edition wristwatch not only pays tribute to NASA's past, but also its own spaceflight history.

Casio's G-Shock DW5600NASA20 offers a retro, NASA-inspired-take on the same digital model that astronauts wore on board the space shuttle.

"All systems go, as Casio G-Shock pays homage to NASA, with a custom DW5600 timepiece, honoring decades of space exploration and groundbreaking discoveries," the company wrote on its G-Shock website.

After initial demand resulted in a back order with a corresponding second shipment, the DW5600NASA20 has now sold out, four days after first being offered.

It will be interesting to see if any of these make their way to LEO over the next few years.

Casio's new digital watch marks 40 years since first space shuttle launch

Casio is set to launch a limited edition timepiece commemorating the 40th anniversary of NASA's first space shuttle launch.

The G-Shock DW5600NASA21-1 features a black and white design inspired by the aesthetics of the space shuttle Columbia, which lifted off on the STS-1 mission on April 12, 1981.

The STS-1 40th anniversary edition watch will go on sale for $140 at 7 a.m. EDT (1100 GMT) on Monday (April 12) on the Casio G-Shock website.

The demand for the STS-1 40th anniversary G-Shock seems to have been just as strong, if not more so, than the first NASA edition. Casio's website briefly crashed soon after the 7 a.m. EDT sale began and then struggled to keep up with the many refreshes as people tried to place orders.

Despite the technical problems, the watch was sold out within the first 45 minutes of its availability. The watches will begin shipping on May 3, according to Casio.

Casio G-Shock watch pays tribute to NASA astronaut launch and entry suits

A new, limited edition wristwatch takes it cue — or rather, hue — from the bright color of the launch and entry suits worn by NASA astronauts.

Casio's latest NASA-inspired digital watch shares the same square-face look of its other G-Shock models, but with an international orange body and strap.

Casio G-Shock celebrates NASA's pursuit of the moon with new limited edition watch

NASA fans now have another reason to count down to this month's anniversary of the launch of the first Apollo lunar landing: the chance to acquire a limited edition timepiece celebrating the agency's pursuit of the moon.

Casio on Wednesday (July 12) revealed its fourth G-Shock digital watch to pay homage to the U.S. space program. Unlike previous releases though, this latest limited edition piece can only be had if your order is chosen in a drawing.

Unfortunately the contest for one of these watches is only open to Casio registered account holders over 18 based in the US!

I have tried to enter this contest from the UK and Casio Customer Services advised me of this although I also found this information on their website.

No indication it will ever be offered for sale outside of the USA.

I will just have to wait for them to appear on a well know auction site at four times the original purchase price!

All times are CT (US)
