This is the second known instance of an Apollo 17 Robbins medallion numbered higher than 300 (RR Auction sold no. 303 in 2018).
Perhaps the original reported number of minted examples needs to be revised?

We need to see these side-by-side and compare whether there are any differences like the Apollo 7 restrikes and the Apollo 16 flown vs unflown medallions.
I do not know who has the original dies. It certainly is possible that there was a restrike. Given that I would not want one of these with a number above 300.

The topic of original vs re-strike definitely must be considered. But that depends on the reliability of the original report of 300 total minted. Was that a Robbins-sourced number?

No. 303 was sold at RR in October 2018. The listing says it was consigned by an ex Robbins employee.
The medal is serial numbered "303" on the edge and stamped with the Robbins hallmark. Condition is mint state. Accompanied by a small plastic box and larger hinged "Robbins Awards" case, measuring 10″ x 4″ x 1″. From the collection of a former Robbins Company executive.
