It shows Jeff Wisoff at the end of the arm during a space walk while on STS-57.

Originally I was going to add an all black background with a simple star field, but it looked boring so forgive the artist license on the cosmic background.

I was going to call it "On a Pedestal" but after finishing it, it reminded me of a mummy from a Boris Karloff movie.

I began this painting three years ago and gave up on it a few times, but through the inspiration of artist Ron Woods I decided to pull the canvas out, give it one more go and was able to complete it. I wish I could say this a was a labor of love but this painting was a struggle. I had intended Eagle to be in a more upright position. But the lunar surface did not look right. So I flipped the painting to match the famous photo.

I tried to depict the buckles and wrinkles in Eagle's thin skin which I hope will explain the textured look to the spacecraft.

Always loved the X-15. One of those airplanes that looks like its going mach 5 when its sitting on the ground.

I have run out of space for the paintings so it will sit in the closet.

Not sure what to try for my next one.

I use to be better with straight lines, but my eyes are not what the use to be. The lines look a little off in this photo but I think it may be my poor photography.

I struggled with the horizon, having to repaint it several times because in its original format the horizon was much higher but the X-15 looked to close to the ground. So I repainted it it current position. If I were to do it again (and I may paint the X-15 A2 at some point) I would have tilted it slightly to the left to allow more of the earth to show.

Anyway its done now and looking for something new to paint.

Of course the Air Force X-20 never got beyond the mockup stage. I never intended to paint the X-20 when I began this project. This painting began originally as the fictional launch of the XRV rescue in the movie "Marooned." But I moved away from that idea and kept the hurricane but drew up the X-20 instead.

The photo is a little dark.

I generally use smaller brushes, but for the dark background I used a small 1.5 inch house painting brush with black gesso and then overlaid several washes of red blue black acrylic to give it a slight glow that does not appear in the photo. The X20 was painted with very small brushes in thin washes over the heavy undercoat.
