I'm ready to get some of my covers signed, but, before I do, I need some advice from those who collect signed First Day/Postal Covers through-the-mail: - What envelope size do you use for the original mailing and SASE?
- How much postage does it take on the original mailing and SASE? (I'm assuming one stamp for every two envelopes, based on my general TTM autograph collecting)
- Anything else you think I should know before sending?
Thanks, all! So far, y'all have been invaluable. |

Mike, I would mail your covers in a large envelope, probably with cardboard, displaying all they required safe handling signage. In that larger envelope I would include another envelope for the self addressed envelope with postage that includes the weight of the cardboard for the return. This method works pretty well with mailing covers for cancellation to Postmasters and for photos for autographs. I'd also put a short letter/note inside for what you would like to have done. Hopes this all helps! |

I would add that in addition to the cardboard stiffner, to also put the cover to be signed in a sleeve of some sort. I'm sure there are better alternatives, but what I've done is cut a sleeve from a 8x10 sheet protector to size. |

They do make First Day Cover sleeves. I've got an order en route now, actually--bought on eBay a few hours ago. The dealer who sold me a few of my covers pointed me toward the right size. They are pretty inexpensive on eBay, by the way.

Do you have the dimensions and seller's id for eBay? I have mine in sheet protectors now and looking for a much better alternative. |

They're sold as "First Day Cover sleeves".Search those and you'll find plenty of seller options, mostly on BCW packs of 100. |
