Why are photos from Apollo 14 signed by Alan Shepard so rare? Did he prefer not to sign them, or is it just that most people sent him Mercury items to sign? (I, for example, sent him two Mercury items in 1986, which he kindly signed for me.) |

Certainly not rare as the 5th Apollo moonwalker has done a limited few commercial signings throughout the 1980/90s.But, for sure, I would think many collectors would have their Mercury and Freedom 7 photos signed first since he was America's first spaceman. But, on the other hand, it could work both ways in that some would certainly prefer lunar signed pictures of the Apollo 14 commander. During my own private signings with Admiral Shepard throughout the early 90s, I would say the majority of items signed were realted to his Project Mercury career. But there were many others signed pertaining to Apollo 14, but not necessarily all lunar-related photos, as many were for launch, suiting up, crew-signed items, portrait shots, and so on. | |
