According to spacefacts his surname is "Muszaphar Shukor" and his given Name "Sheikh".Meanwhile I think, that "Sheikh" might be something like "Sultan" for Al-Saud. But what is then the surname and what the given Name? His spacesuit says his name is "Shekh Muszaphar". Im must say, I'm a little bit confused. The Eastfrisian |

Malaysia's Angkasawan program website lists his full name as: [Dr.] Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. In Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar's (as he refers to himself in his blog) case, "Sheikh" is not a title like "Sultan". If you refer to his nametag, you will see his first and surname, Sheikh Muszaphar. quote: Originally posted by East-Frisian: His spacesuit says his name is "Shekh Muszaphar".
That would appear to be a misspelling; look carefully at his Sokol suit tag on the day of his launch and you can see it reads "Sheikh". |

I'm afraid you are both wrong. Like in many Asian languages (Chinese, Korean, for instance), the family name is given first, and the first name follows. In other words: Sheikh is his family name. Muszhaphar Shukor are his first names. Jürgen ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany International Director (Europe), Space Unit Vice President, Weltraum Philatelie e. Thanks, Jürgen. I should I have concluded that after seeing that his father had the name Sheikh as well, but was more focused on how he wrote his own name in his English-language blog. |

As the topic of "Sultan" was brought up here, according to my understanding of Saudi Arabian royal names Sultan is HRH 's first name instead of a title. His complete name (without titles) is Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, which means "Sultan, son of Salman who is the son of Abdul Aziz Al-Saud" (the founder of the country). So his father is Salman bin Abdul-Aziz. The present king of Saudi Arabia is Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz. One of HRH 's other uncles, the present Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, has the name "Sultan", just like HRH himself, so that is Sultan bin Abdul Aziz. And to make things even more simple: Crown Prince Sultan named one of his sons Salman, so that's HRH Salman bin Sultan bin Abdul-Aziz ... |
