Hello. This will be my first time attending the UACC show and I'm really looking forward to it. I have a couple questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.

1.) Do the prices that the guests charge include a photo or do you have to purchase a photo separately?

2.) Could anybody give me the approximate prices of the following people: Dave Scott (I've heard $150), Edgar Dean Mitchell, Gene Cernan, Wally Schirra, Alan Bean, Valentina Tereshkova (I've heard all the cosmonauts are $30), Walt Cunningham and Dee O'Hara?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to the show, I'm just trying to figure out my budget. Thanks.

Ed Mitchell was $30; a true blessing to those of us who are not rich. Walt I believe was $25. Gene Cernan will probably be $125. Alan Bean $75. Wally Schirra and Scott Carpenter were $50. Buzz was $150 for flat, $225 for 3D. Expect prices to be more this year. Buzz probably $300 for 3d unfortunately. I think some of these guys need to come back to earth. Young and Collins have priced me out of the market. I spent $1400 on Mcdivitt at Novaspace but had 10 or 11 things signed. Not willing to spend $400 - $500 on one signed thing. Too bad, these guys would get more volume at a reasonable price, but perhaps they have no desire for the volume.

At the last couple of shows the price did go up a little- Mitchell was $30 (the bargain for a moonwalker) Cernan was $75, the cosmonauts were $40 with a free photo. Schirra and Carpenter could have made much more money, but their prices increased to $50 - $10 more each year (Washington I believe they were $25)Bean I think was $40- funny how we forget the prices from just last year- I guess I need to write these things down.

Jam,

Bean was $75, but that may have been for
3d items. Perhaps it was for flats as well.
I had the priviledge of meeting with Ed Mitchell in his home for a private signing. He is a true gentleman and very pleasant to converse with. He mentioned that other astronauts have prodded him to raise his prices, but I'm glad there are a few that keep their prices within reason. I can tell you that I spent about 2 grand on signatures with him, but that was for about 60 signatures. Would I spend that much on 4 or 5 signatures from the other guys. No way. Some may have misinterpreted my thoughts on some of these guys that "need to come back to earth". It is not a criticism of their pricing, but from purely a business standpoint, if you lower your price and sell more, doesn't it make sense to do so? I have heard the argument that some are trying to protect the value of existing signatures by maintaining these high prices. I say, boo..., give us cash challenged collectors a break. I now descend from my soapbox.

As a footnote in the case of a completion signature, or to add another moonwalker to my moonglobe, I would fork out the cash for 1 overpriced signature, but with some reluctance. If Armstrong were willing to sign however, he could name his price.

A. Bean was NOT $75 for flats and where are you getting your pricing predictions for astronauts such as Gene Cernan? I have no reason to believe he's charging $125. You seem to speak with authority about pricing but I should point out that you do not represent sims and hankow, your information on past pricing is not very accurate and can,t imagine how you're able to announce this year's fees in advance when you're not privy to that information except for a few select astronauts you may have commmunicated with privately.

Thanks for your help. I was expecting Schirra and Carpenter to be $30, $40 at the most, so I really hope that they're not charging $50 each. It looks like I'll have to pass on Cernan. If Bean's $40 I can get one, so hopefully that's what he is.

Does anybody know if these prices include a photo? Does Dave Scott actually make you dish out $150 and then not provide a photo?

Would one of you kind souls mind getting three photos signed for me in San Antonio?
The photos would be purchased there at the Farthest Reaches table and I would trust your judgement on what three to choose.
Please contact me at astrobbo@hotmail.com

I was at the Secaucus New Jersey show last year. This is what I remember each person
charging. These prices may not be the same at the San Antonio show.

Buzz Aldrin $150 to sign a photo
Alan Bean $40
Scott Carpenter $50
Walt Cunningham $40
Ed Gibson $30
Richard Gordon $40
Valery Kubasov $40
Alexei Leonov $40
Jack Lousma $30
Edgar Mitchell $40
Wally Schirra $50
Dave Scott $150
Rusty Schweickart $40
Valentina Tershkova $40
Brian Binnie $20
Mike Melvill $20
Sy Liebergot $15
Guenter Wendt $15

For certain people the price went up for inscriptions, 3D objects,
or completion of a crew photo.

Steve, if you carefully read my posting, I said Alan Bean was $75, in fact he was $75 for 3d's. I also said (perhaps)$75 for flats. Perhaps means that I don't exactly remember. Shirra was $50, Buzz was $150 for flats, $225 for 3D. Based on what Collectspace recently charged for 3d mailed in items to Buzz($300), I assumed that $300 for 3Ds would be a safe guess for the show since Collectspace sponsors him for the show. Cernan was a guess as that is what Novaspace charged for his signature. To say that prices will probably be more is really not a stretch as they have gone up each year. So could you please point out exactly which astronaut(besides my GUESS about Cernan) that I have inaccurately presented. If you have some issue with me, perhaps the higher road would be to discuss this with me offline. I will reread my postings and look for the my statement saying that I represented Sims and Hankow in my comments.

Just for the record, for our recent custom signing, the price for a 3-D item was $300, not $325.

For Duke... the photos are extra. There is a vast selection available. The last two years the cost was $5.

I attended the last two shows so I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. Email me if you like using the icon above. Before I went to my first show I had a million questions.

Steve, do you have approximate pricing for Bruce McCandless and Al Worden? Thanks.

John

Thanks for the help, John. Although it's very disappointing that the photos are extra. Even $30 is scraping the high end for most people, let alone $50-$150. To not include a photo is pretty insulting in my opinion. Hopefully this year will be a little different in that aspect. I'll mainly be going just to meet the astronauts and get my picture taken with them. I'll get one or two autos, but not as many as I planned on getting.

Like other people have said, I'd probably end up spending a lot more money if the prices were more reasonable.

Thank you very much for your help, everyone.

One of the primary reasons photo sales are kept separate are that they help finance the production of the show. Without such there might not be a venue to meet the astronauts and/or have photos taken with them (which, other than a low admission fee, are both free activities).

The other part to this is that it would be fairly frustrating for people who have specific items we wanted signed to also have to cough for the cost of a photograph we don't need in the autograph price. That said, the photos available at the NJ show last year were amazing, both in terms of selection and quality.

Robert's remarks are quite true. The sale of the photos are instrumental in making these events possible. The expense of putting this together each year is great and beyond it needing to be profitable for the astronauts and worthwhile for the attending public, it must also be cost effective for the promoters or these events can not continue. If you think you're insulted for having to pay for a signature and than for a photo as well (which is most reasonably priced by the way), take a look at the cost of attending a Science Fiction for a weekend. I think you'll conclude that ours is most cost effective in comparision. Beyond that, most feel the experience of sharing up close time with our guests is more than worth the price of admission and an experience of a lifetime though admittedly I'm a bit biased.

Hey guys, I can’t go to San Antonio this year due to family commitments. On the other hand I have been to the last two shows. One quick bit of advice is that getting autographs, for me at least, is only fraction of what you will take home from this show.

Sharing times with our fellow collectors and the astronauts themselves will be the real jewel that you take home with you. The dinner banquet Saturday night is really a great time to share some great stories too. If you see an astro in the bar that looks thirsty, buy him, or her, a drink. Then you can brag the rest of your days that you bought so and so a drink once. If you see a Brit, Kiwi etc. there in the bar, same thing holds true.

I can’t emphasize enough what a great time you will have just sharing the weekend with everyone. Take lots of pictures. Meet up with people there and share some local side trips too. Autographs are just ink on paper, but your memories are a pocket full of gold that you can spend over and over again when you tell the stories years on down the line. Also say Hi to Cece and Dee for me too.

Thanks.

PS Oh, and if you do get things signed, Steve does have sensational photos available there. So don't worry if you can't get all your pictures before hand.

Kind Regards

Douglas Henry

Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby!

Well said Doug. Exactly the way I feel about it, and I will be missing this year's show also. Everything about this is tremendous value including the photos IMO. Most autographs are reasonably priced as are the photos.

For anyone new to this I suggest you search back to threads on past shows for an idea on the fun you can have.

I look forward to reading about this year's show. Have a great time everyone.

I have to agree.
I was lucky enough to attend last years show in New Jersey and it definately was a thrill for this long time space buff.
For all those going to San Antonio this year, you're in for a real treat.
Where else can you get to mingle with astronauts that took part in 5 of the 6 lunar landings?
On top of that, meet the other astronauts who made history in the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, as well as the Shuttle programs.
Wish I was going...

I agree with Doug and John (TrueNorth). I was fortunate to attend the last two shows and boy! what an experience it was! Collecting autographs is nice but meeting and chatting with these guys is priceless. Plus, you meet with some other space buffs and create friendships.

I won't be at the show this year but have some nice pictures to look at...

Just got off the phone with Victoria Campbell of Aurora Galleries. I called to get the real prices That Dave Scott will be charging for the upcomming show. $150.00 on anything even completion photos. $400.00 on Moonwalker prints. That's it.

If if you can't afford a Dave Scott, stop by and say hello to Victoria anyway. She's the reason Dave Scott is there. Did you know Dave gets all the money and Victoria gets zero. She even pays her own way to the show. She does all this as a courtesy.

What forms of payment are accepted by the signers? Cash only? Travelers Checks? Personal Checks? Credit cards (I thought I remembered someone saying Aldrin and Scott accepted plastic, but I could be misremembering). Obviously, need to know how much cash I need to bring.

We will be accepting all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) for Dr. Aldrin's autographs at the show.

I talked with Steve about the payments and he said that most of the more costly autographers will take plastic. I asked him about the Russians and he said that they will take credit cards too. They will have someone there to handle that part of the show for them. He said that most will take checks. I seem to remember Steve saying that 95% will take other forms of payment other than cash.

I am taking plastic and checks and a little cash. I think this will work the best.

One additional question that I was hoping someone could help with. Last year was my first UACC show, however, I did not attend the dinner in the evening. This year I purchased a Gold Pass and will be sitting with Alan Bean. I was curious about the attire for the dinner. If I recall correctly, I think I saw pictures posted on this site that had folks in suits. Just want to confirm with someone who has attended as a begin to think about what to pack. Don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. :-)

Thanks

I called Steve about this also and he said it was not listed as being a black tie event. He described it more as business casual. He said it was not a jeans and t-shirt dinner. He said most people would be dressed as business casual and that a few of the guests might were a tie or sports jacket.

Maybe some others that have attended the dinner will add their opinions too?

I have had the pleasure of attending the past two years/dinners. In 2004, I did not wear a tie and man did I feel out of place. Last year I did do the coat and tie thing and "fit right in." My recollection is that most folks are dressed a step above business casual but not necessarily 'black tie', perhaps semi-formal would describe it. I guess that's what you usually get at a $100 a plate dinner.

I'll wear black tie if someone will promise to make out a donation check for Corporate Angel Network. A decent donation will enable you to see Kornfeld in rare attire. I'll even sign autographs.

An even larger donation will cause me NOT to spill anythingn on my shirt.
