Auction lots are beginning to appear on the Lunar Legacies website for the February 25, 2012 auction. These lots appear on the site for previewing purposes only, and the auction will be uploaded to Proxibid on or about Feb. 12 for bidding. I expect about 400 lots as usual and hope to see you there.Anyone wishing to consign items to the Feb. 25 auction, please contact me. Additionally, you may have heard that Lunar Legacies is conducting the space auction at this year's SpaceFest in Arizona in June, and I'm looking for many nice lots for that auction as well, so please contact me if you wish to consign to this auction. Lots for this auction are also beginning to appear on the Lunar Legacies site. |

The Lunar Legacies auction has moved to Live Auctioneers! The 11th Lunar Legacies auction is only 10 days away on February 25 at 1 p.m. EST. Due to many unexpected and difficult differences between Live Auctioneers and Proxibid, where all my previous auctions have been held, I will not have the auction opened for registration until Sunday, Feb. 19. Unlike Proxibid, Live Auctioneers does not allow registration to begin until the auction is finalized, that is, with all photos and descriptions complete. As many of you know from experience with Proxibid, I was able to complete the auction on the fly while registration proceeded, but not anymore I discovered. Thanks for your patience. A link to the Live Auctioneers registration page will appear on lunarlegacies.com on Sunday. There have also been necessary rate structure changes. All internet bidders will pay a flat 18% buyer’s fee with no add-ons except exact postage, and this 18% covers all commissions and fees, and it will not go above this. For previous auctions, the vast majority of buyers were paying this exact amount anyway when the commissions, payment method fees and internet auction provider fees were added. This will make it simpler for all of us. For mail and phone bidders, a flat 15% fee will be charged to cover all the above charges. Hope to see you there and more emails will follow. this week. |

After attempting to change the auction to Live Auctioneers, the Lunar Legacies auction is now back at Proxibid. The buyer side of Live Auctioneers may be good, but the auctioneer side is a mess, and Proxibid is light-years better in that regard. Therefore, the auction lots have now been uploaded to Proxibid, and may be viewed by clicking here. Due to my experimentation with the other internet auction company, and in part to my wife being ill for all of January, I have gotten more behind than usual, but should have the auction finalized within the next few days, with all photos and descriptions. If you have not signed up with Proxibid within the last six months, you may have to follow the instructions below. - Login with your existing username and password, or Create an Account.
- Once logged in, go to proxibid.com (the home page) and find the Lunar Legacies auction by clicking on the "Companies" link under the Browse Auctions heading. Click on the "L" and scroll down to find Lunar Legacies, then click on it.
- At the Lunar Legacies auction page, go down to the Current Auctions box and click on the "Click here to get pre-approved to bid" link.
- Once the new page comes up, click again on the “Click here to get pre-approved for this and other similar auctions” link at the top.
- Fill in the Profile information (there are two tabs).
- Go back to the Lunar Legacies auction page (see step 2).
- At the Lunar Legacies auction page, go down again to the Current Auctions box and click on the "Click here to get pre-approved to bid" link. A message will appear that you are approved to bid and you are done.
Thanks very much and hope to see you there! |

Looks complicated but it's really not at all. Anyone want to chime in and give your opinions of Proxibid? This would help us decide if we needed to change to Live Auctioneers. |

I love Proxibid. I do all of the on line space auctions and it is the easiest one for me. |

The 11th Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia Auction is only a few days away on Saturday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. EST. Lots of great autographs and hardware. For anyone wishing to submit mail-in bids or be added to a call list, please do so this week by email. With mail-in bids and live phone bids you can avoid the extra 5% Proxibid fee. All mail-in bids must be submitted before 12 noon EST on auction day and must be confirmed as received.
And after the auction, in order to expedite the process, anyone who won lots and wishes to pay for them with their credit card that was used for registration at Proxibid, please write to that effect on Saturday or Sunday. Those packages will the first in line and will be sent out first. |

Anyone else having trouble getting the Proxibid Bidder Application to load? Mine keeps stopping at "Loading lots... one moment please." Never had this problem before. I've tried both Explorer and Firefox. |

Similar problem. Not able to join auction. I had no trouble with prebids. Lots of bidders are shut out. |

"Connection outgoing..." for a while, then a Proxibid window pops up telling me there is a problem with my Internet connection. There isn't - all other websites work fine. Man. Glad I got some prebids in, but if others are having this problem, then Proxibid seems to have let us and Donnis down.EDIT: I got through by phone to a friendly Proxibid support person who said that the Bidder app takes much more bandwidth than other websites, so the problem really might be my connection. I am in a different place than usual. But the connection seems very fast and stable, and others seem locked out too. EDITED EDIT: I will say for all posterity that after I got home it worked on my usual computer. |

I'd guess it's an issue with either an incorrectly installed/configured (unlikely) or outdated version of Java (and/or web browser). |

Never had a problem before, but this time it's rubbish. Thought I'd set everything up earlier today but first I had to download a file, then install JAVA 6, then change my screen resolution and also confirm the credit card which I had already confirmed earler today. Sorry Donnis, if it doesn't work for all then it's not fit for purpose I'm afraid. This will be an inexpensive evening as I still cannot gain access to the live auction. Very disappointed with the system. |

Yeah, I would guess it's a bandwidth issue. For example, I used to have a VERY terrible ISP that was always giving bandwidth issues--sometimes the bandwidth would be decreased so much that I was unable to even load Google, yet a few other non-bandwidth-intensive programs would run just fine. Even if your connection seems to load webpages reasonably fast that doesn't exactly mean it's running correctly. Also you may be having trouble on the uploading-end. This is a good website for checking what your download and upload speeds are. If Upload and Download are functioning correctly and you're running a compatible browser and version of Java (I personally have Java 6 Build 29, and use Firefox 10.0.2) then I have no idea why it wouldn't work.As for the auction, I think it went reasonably well. I ended up not getting most of I wanted (On hindsight I wish I would have bid more earlier on) but overall I'm happy with my purchases. Can't wait for the next one. |

Thanks to prebids I got both of the items I most wanted. Nothing too flashy, but related to spacecraft or missions that particularly interest me. I was outbid on several more, but that just means most people could get through to the auction and liked what they saw, which is good for Donnis. This Lunar Legacies auction had particularly fine lots - I was watching 51 things! |

Yeah I agree, I was watching 50 exactly. Shame I only managed to get one of the ones I originally intended to purchase -- but it was at least a good one. I wish I would have put more money into the earlier lots, the ones I was most interested in were near the end. |

Regarding issues with Proxibid, when I switched to a Mac a year ago I had some issues getting things configured to work properly during the live auction. What worked best was contacting Proxibid technical support the day before the auction. They helped with the configuration and we were able to test it on an on going auction the day before Lunar Legacies. It's been fine ever since. My point is that Proxibid technical support was very good and it was nice to iron out the wrinkles the day before the auction rather than waiting until the day of the auction. I really think Proxibid has a very nice auction format with lots of convenient features. |

True... but you should really not have to jump thru hoops to start bidding. |

Thanks for all of your comments. They have been sent over to Proxibid. I have to say that we are disappointed that some of you couldn't participate in our auction. I can assure you that this will not happen next time. I will double check the collectSPACE comments throughout the day. Next auction will be at Spacefest and we will make sure that everyone can have a chance to bid. It does help to try and get online the day before... But, you are right you shouldn't have to jump through hoops. Again I'm really sorry about what happened. Here is the email I got from proxibid on Saturday right after the auction. We apologize for any difficulties bidders may have experienced during this auction. Proxibid's technology team is researching the issues. Thank you for your patience as we investigate further. |

It's a web browser, similar to Internet Explorer but much safer and more effective. I'd highly suggest downloading it, especially since it supports plug-ins (One really useful plugin is called Adblock Plus. It blocks ads, which is helpful because lots of ads contain spyware, adware, and trojans). |

Proxibid asked me to get your email address for those of you that had problems getting through to the auction. It would be of great help if they can figure out what happened. They looked at there end and said nothing has changed. We certainly don't want a problem at the next auction at SpaceFest! Thanks for your bidding and hope to see you on June 2nd. If you would like to consign please email us at lunarlegacies@gmail.com. |

Jimmy, I would love to contact you via e-mail but it doesn't seem like anything is going through to you. Please check your spam folder - emails from Lunar Legacies have gone there before for others. I sent you an invoice on Feb 29th to the email address you registered with at Proxibid. I received a follow up email from you a few days ago, from the same email address, and I answered it promptly along with an additional email with the invoice again. Please advise if you find all these in your spam folder. Thanks and sorry for the delay. |
