Here's a question: which shuttle mission saw the most number of astronauts who made their one and only spaceflight on that mission? STS-51F comes to mind for me, with 5 of the 7 astronauts only making one trip into space in their careers.

I'm thinking you are probably correct.

...and the only U.S. (multi-crew) mission consisting of first (and only) time fliers is Skylab 4.

Yeah, I think you are correct with STS 51-F. And if you want to take that statistic further, only one of the STS 51-F crew flew again (Story Musgrave).

The only flight I can think of that comes close in terms of "one time fliers" is probably only due to tragedy: STS-107, which had four one-time fliers (McCool, Brown, Clark and Ramon).

Another is Apollo 14. The CDR had flown a 15-minute sub-orbital flight.

Wouldn't STS-129 be tied with 107 for second most? Melvin, Bresnik, Satcher and Wilmore flew only one spaceflight (so far).

Leland Melvin flew on STS-122 and STS-129.

My bad... how could I have forgotten his 122 mission.

All times are CT (US)
