I was out last night doing an article on a Manahawkin, NJ-based art group having a display at the Barnegat branch of Ocean County Library. One of the artists? A former Navy photographer who was among those who photographed Shepard's recovery from the USS Lake Champlain (and he did a painting of Shepard and of Shepard's liftoff.)

He also photographed one of the monkey test flight recoveries, but not any of the other Mercury astronaut recoveries.

I mentioned that I had met Cooper and Schirra last year in LA, and mentioned that there was going to be a similar show in NJ this year (after dropping names like Leonov and Kubasov.) I also directed him to collectSPACE.com.

I'll be waiting by my mailbox for my commission check.
