On a UK Tv program last night - about world speed record breakers it was said that Art Arfons built his own human centrifuge to help condition him for his jet powered drag racers and world speed record attempts back in the 1960's ! Specifically for the latter world speed record attempts using is "Anteater" car. This centrifuge still existed upto a few years ago (and may still exist) at Art Arfon's home and workshop in Pickle Road,Akron,Ohio. Any local Akron OH collectspace members ever seen this centrifuge ? Do you have any images of it you could share ? Phill

I haven't seen or heard of the centrifuge. I do have great memories of watching him and his jet powered tractors. It was great fun watching him in the unlimited modified tractor class at various tractor pulls many years ago. ------------------ Evan |

In the film - which unfortunately I didn't tape :-(( - they showed the centrifuge lying in the open yard at Pickle Road. Not sure when this film was shot but I'd say about 3-5 years ago ?It was a great program and showed the rivalry between the Arfon brothers and Craig Breedlove ! |

Good news They're replaying the program on BBC-4 TV TODAY at 7pm (UK time) and again on Friday mroning (at 02:15 am)I have just been reading a web site that suggests the centrifuge may not have been built until 1990's but I'm sure the commentator last night said he'd built it in 60's Maybe re-viewing later will clear this up. There were some great shots also of the 'rocket powered' world speed record attempts (and breakers). Using the JATO bottles in tiered racks :-) Phill UK |

Managed catch the program again last night and have managed grab a couple of images of the device. The tv sequence lasts only a few seconds and there are no real close ups of the device or descriptions.Additionally, I have made contact with Art's son and hope he will provide more detail and images in due course. I can't publish the images as they will be property of the film makers and can only use for my own personal use. But if any one interested might be able email for their personal use only ?
