In NASA's footage of the Mercury-Redstone 2 launch, what is the small building that falls over as the rocket lifts off the pad?

At 0:22-0:23 in this NASA video look just above the word 'flies' in the caption and you see that small building fall/blown over.

(The same launch footage is used in the film "The Right Stuff" to depict Shepard's Mercury-Redstone 3 liftoff.)

I'm not sure that blown over object is a building. It appears to be something more like a storage container or something like that. and if it was empty, it was easily blown over as the film shows.

Just a guess...

I'm not sure about the building, but I was blown over as a 12 year old in the early 80's when I saw the pilot of Mercury-Redstone 2 at our local zoo in Asheboro, NC. Ham lived there till his death. I should have gotten a quote from him. Sorry for being off target, but had to plug this in.

To be honest it just looks like an ordinary garden shed that's blown over.

The same "shed" appears in an MR-1A image but the Redstone is higher up and the shed is intact. It has a flat roof and a window and seems to be wood. 60-MR1-11.

It looks very similar to the temporary shelter on Complex 14 removed prior to launch. Shown at the top of the pad stairs.

I'm not sure who its for? Maybe security or the foreman's hut.

I looked at several huts on LC-12 and there was no indication of function. On LC-36A the same stand/hut has a prominent STAND TALKER sign on it for the AC-5 launch. The huts were temporary as noted and do not show in all images.

Much clearer video here (just the first few seconds, the rest is Hollywood).

I agree it's some type of shed/temporary building. But what, and why not secured?

All times are CT (US)
