I've recently acquired a lot of NASA memorabilia. One of the pieces stands out above all: A pair of Luxottica prescription glasses that are gold electroplated and read "Apollo Pilot" on the left arm. Would appreciate any thoughts on these, of where they could have come from or who wore them. |

Could have been worn by almost anyone -- maybe the owner of the pass?They are not military issue, for what it's worth. |

I've been doing a lot of research and still no definitive conclusions. I did find out about the Luxottica group. They make custom luxury glasses for high end clientele. I found the glasses among a huge lot of NASA stuff closely associated with a certain shuttle pilot that I cannot name for his privacy. Unfortunately I am unable to contact him and get the easy answers. Also considering selling these at one point and was wondering if there would be any kind of market value? Thanks for your time.  |

And I know for certain they did not belong to the pilot in question. He was a shuttle pilot not an Apollo pilot. But he had close association with a few Apollo pilots, Buzz, and Grissom. |

Luxottica owns a bunch of glasses/sunglasses brands that you can find in any store, such as Ray-Ban, and licenses the brand names for many designers, like Gucci and such. |

At one time, my family ran the third largest buying group for optometrists. Luxottica is a well-established brand and distributor of eyeglasses. "Pilot" is a style of frames; "Apollo Pilot" may be a Luxottica style of a pilot frame. Any connection to an astronaut is likely coincidental. But you might bring the frames with you on your next visit to your optometrist, as s/he could contact Luxottica/Avant Garde and inquire. Or you could reach out Luxottica directly. |

As far as market value, not much. Unless you can tie them to an individual they are used sunglasses. Being prescription does not help. |

Thanks to all of you for your responses! I've researched "Pilot frames" by Luxottica and cannot find anything close. Good idea to bring them to an eye specialist, I will try that later today. One heck of a coincidence to find these among a heap of NASA material connected to a shuttle pilot, but I accept that might be the case. One thing I know for sure is that "Apollo Pilot" Glasses from Luxottica were never production. Thanks again, you guys rock
