In addition to autographs being cut out of signed books (as discussed here) I found a Topps Space Shuttle Atlantis Payload Bay Liner that has been unsealed and cut into smaller pieces. |

What a joke! Could be a piece of anything!Apart from kapton foil samples, I try to ensure all my items are big enough to demonstrate their origin! |

I almost died when I saw that, I couldn't believe it. But it's like a previous post on this forum talking about people cutting the signature page out of a book to sell. You're right, the small size of the liner is cut even smaller to which complicates the origin. |

Now I'm tempted to take one of the STS-8 flown envelopes and cut that up and sell it.... First take it apart, so that you have front, back and sides for more material. (I really wouldn't do this, but it is tempting.) |

I have never understood this type of complaint, and I see it on this site often.So, the piece was obviously cut from something much larger to start with, why do people gripe about it being cut any smaller? It's ALREADY a small section cut from the larger whole. I simply cannot see where the gripe is justified at all. |

I guess there are those who believe that such things shouldn't be cut up in the first place. Sure cutting things up makes it more accessible to those that want it, but I'd rather see a whole data page from a mission, and understand the context of that page, than get a thumbnail slice of that page. |

Yeah, THAT I can get.But the item was already a small piece cut from something larger. I don't understand at all why anyone feels that something ALREADY CUT INTO A SMALL ITEM being cut any smaller is somehow wrong or deserves any special mention... |

It's not so much as cutting something smaller, there are two issues. From the card collecting standpoint it destroys the value. The other thing is the artifact is very small to begin with so cutting it smaller to sell for an "extreme" price. |

I'm going to side with Lee on this one. The artifact was already cut into numerous pieces. Reducing that already small size into quarters isn't really a big deal. The cards do not seem to be in short supply since they frequently show up on eBay. Looking at a cursory list of closed auctions, they typically sell for $20-$40. |
