I have been contacted numerous times in the past couple of months from people wanting to know how they can get 8x10 and larger prints made of some of the images that are on the Retro Space Images disc offerings. This is what I would like to do... and please give me some feedback on this.I am going to team up with Tom Usciak, owner and operator of Greenfield Photo Labs in Lancaster, Pa. To start with, you will be able to e-mail me directly with any image request you have. If it is on a Retro disc, and you own the disk, just send me the file number. If you have a specific image in mind, just e-mail me a sample and I will let you know if it is available. Some cases will require research and a minimal fee might be involved. We are talking about 60,000 plus images being made available for custom printing... at a very reasonable price. Glossy, matte, semi-gloss, borderless, with white border, etc. The initial request would be made directly to me, and I would then turn the order over to the lab. You would then be instructed to send payment directly to the lab. Is anyone interested in this? J.L. Pickering Retro Space Images.com |

I just recently took advantage of this service and in less than a week's time from placing the order I received the custom made photos!!! They were absolutely choice in every regard. If you need photos to be made, I highly recommend going thru Retro Space Images.Gerry Montague Astronaut Archives |

Thanks for that unsolicited testimonial Gerry.I plan on being at the ASF show in November. Might be a good opportunity for some of you to take advantage of the print offer. Superb 8x10 prints starting at $3.50 each. |

Definitely. I try to go for the "candid" photos when getting stuff signed - something other than the flight or spacesuit portraits - and it's hard because pre STS-79, there are very few high-res photos available for the early shuttle flights. (At least on the NASA websites I know about; for example, I stumbled across a high-res of Jemison "clicking her heels" on STS-47 on a Smithsonian site.)And starting at $3.50 each isn't bad considering I send my requests to WalMart to get printed, at $2.78 or so for an 8x10. (And I have a request in mind, so I'll be in touch.) |

With high-res photos pre-STS-79 hard to find, I ordered two photos and am happy with both the cost (around $7 and change) and the quality of the pics. I basically emailed J.L. and said I was looking for photos of so-and-so, what do you have? I got emailed in return a selection of what J.L. had, just had to reply with which ones I wanted made.My only nit is that the photos were slightly larger than 8x10, but they still fit into my presentation book I keep my pictures in. | |
