The Stafford Air and Space Museum will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, September 28, 2013 as part of Smithsonian magazine's ninth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! Offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution.
Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian's commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. Last year's event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year's event expects record-high participation.
"Being named a Smithsonian Affiliate is a huge honor, and what better way to showcase our museum as an affiliate than participating in the Museum Day Live!" said Brandi Rizzi, Marketing Coordinator for the Stafford Air and Space Museum. "This is a fun event to participate in and we want to share our museum with everyone we can! This is the perfect way for people to come free of charge, and all they have to do is go online and get a Museum Day Live! ticket."
The Stafford Air and Space Museum was named as a Smithsonian Affiliate in the summer of 2011. Being named an Affiliate by the Smithsonian means the museum has met the Institution's high requirements and holds extraordinary collections of artifacts deemed worthy of the Smithsonian. Only 3 museums in Oklahoma share the title of Smithsonian Affiliate, Stafford Air and Space being the only one in rural Oklahoma.
The Museum Day Live! Ticket will be available to download beginning in August at smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! Ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
