Sounds like a good event. I am always looking for opportunities to meet Armstrong since he is the only man to walk on the Moon I have not yet met. Anyone been to one of these ceremonies before? I am wondering how accessible the presenters and honorees might be. If there is a good chance I would be able to shake Armstrong's hand I would look into making the trip. |

I attended the 2003 Pioneers of Flight celebration. The crowd is very large (2,100+) for the actual event and interaction was limited. Many of the honorees stayed after the ceremony and greeted guests though. I had crazy elevator luck at the adjacent hotel when Neil Armstrong and Mrs. Armstrong jumped on with me. We spoke for the too short ride and he kindly posed for a quick photo with me. We then saw Gene Cernan, Jim Lovell and a few other greats in the hotel bar that evening. They were in a private room but Mr. Cernan actually left the room to sign autographs for some fans who were in another part of the bar. To sum it up, it was a wonderful event and, depending on how folks feel, you can meet some wonderful people. | |
