That's the nice thing about having a unmanned program along with a manned program, you get to see other worlds WITHIN OUR LIFETIME!Sad thing is, manned wise I doubt if any of us will live long enough to see the United States back on the moon let alone Mars. Wish that wasn't the case, but we just can't seem to get our act together! That's not to say we won't see Japan or China there though,...in time. A balanced manned and unmanned space program is the best alternative we have. Let's just hope that President Bush does prove me wrong and sets a new long rage goal next month, and then FOLLOWS THROUGH with the money and backing. His dad had all the right words a few years ago, but DID NOTHING to back to back them up! If a new goal is proposed, I think all of us should hound our Congressmen and Senators and educate them as to the multipler effect, and remind them that not a cent has ever been spent "IN" space. Also they should be reminded that you just can't turn the space program's budget on and off again like a water faucet. You need guaranteed LOCKED-IN multi-year funding! It's sad when you think that NASA does all that it does with 7/10 of one percent! Think of what we could do with a full 2%. | |
