Space Cover #520: Unnumbered Beck cachets

Most of us have heard about the unnumbered Beck cachets, but not everyone has obtained any.

Morris Beck gave 25 unnumbered Beck cachets to the captains of the recovery ships as I understand it. I have four of these difficult to obtain covers and have each of them in my exhibit, "How We Got Men to the Moon" because judges like to see rare material. They also like to learn about aspects of philately which they did not know. Therefore exhibitors can get extra credit for showing and explaining difficult to find material. But we use that term, rather than "scarce" or "rare" when we show them.

I place a small red dot above the upper right corner of all of my difficult to obtain covers, explaining the reason for the red dot in my text on page one of my exhibits. So far it has worked well in my favor to do so — as long as I don't show too many red dots within the exhibit.

Above are three Prime Recovery Ship (PRS) covers and one Secondary Recovery Ship (SRS) cover to show that they were given to both prime and secondary ships. I just thought I'd throw in a few exhibiting tips as I show you here the four Beck covers without numbers that I showed in my Diamond exhibit.

All times are CT (US)
