With regards to diecast models of the NASA livery F-104 "Starfighter," I was aware of the first three: - Model Power

Is this a new model? Does anyone have any info about this (or other NASA F-104 diecast models)? |

Interesting that the 1/72 scale Hobby Master F-104N carries the number 013, depicting the plane NASA Chief Test Pilot Joe Walker flew on June 8, 1966 during a photo op with an XB-70 and other aircraft. Tragically, Walker and XB-70 co-pilot Maj. Carl Cross were killed after a mid-air collision. The model would make a nice exhibit next to one of an X-15, which Walker would take twice to more than 50 miles altitude into space, becoming only the second 'civilian' space traveler, behind Russia's Tereshkova. He also became the first American to return to space a second time, not equaled by NASA until Gus Grissom aboard Gemini 3. |

That particular Joe Walker F-104 is tough to find; checked Flying Mule in the US and AviationMegastore.com in the UK and they did not have it. Good luck! |

There's also this one by Matchbox.I bought that model, as well as the Hobby Master Joe Walker F-104N, from Flying Mule at around the same time at least 3-4 years ago, so I'm thinking they've both been off the primary/retail market for a while. Good hunting  |

I really like the Matchbox 1/72 models, for the price they were really a deal. I bought multiples of each, but alas they are still in storage. |
