Section Two: Astronaut Artifacts
STS-33 Ground Track of Approach and Landing at Edwards Air Force Base
As STS-33 Commander Frederick Gregory explains:
"This is an extremely rare ground track image of STS-33/ Discovery landing at Edwards AFB on 27 Nov 89. Runway 04 was used because of the low sun angle and severe visibility restriction if Runway 22, the preferred [runway] had been selected.
"This was the first and only shuttle landing on Runway 04."
STS-33 was the fifth mission dedicated to the Department of Defense, the 9th flight of Discovery and the 32nd shuttle mission. It was in space for 5 days and 6 minutes.
