Section Two: Astronaut Memorabilia
Lot 012: Apollo 13 Flown Netting Snap from the collection of Fred Haise

To meet the challenge of landing on the Moon, the Lunar Module represented a real engineering challenge to meet the overall weight requirements. One of the design features in that regard was to design a lightweight inner wall that was comprised of beta cloth mesh material held to the walls of the ship by metal snaps in appropriate locations. One could look through the netting and see wire bundles and liquid "plumbing" lines carrying water or Freon. This netting assured that one would not harm any of the critical elements in moving around within the confines of the very small crew cabin.

Before departing Aquarius for reentry, Fred Haise removed the netting from the spacecraft. This snap with the surrounding beta cloth material was flown on Apollo 13 to the Moon April 11-17, 1970.

Handsomely framed (not shown) with a photo of the netting taken during the mission and metal inscribed plaque. This lot includes a Certificate of Authenticity certified by Haise.
