I must admit I've been keeping this new book under wraps for a while until the publication process was well under way — which it now is.

Christopher and his (Australian) wife and children are currently living here in Sydney for the next three or so years before moving back to the States, so we've had a good chance over the past few months to discuss the book, get in contracted and under way, and it will be released by UNP later this year.

It's the story of a boy growing up as the son of a test pilot, smoke jumper and Apollo astronaut, and what that meant — in all its different ways — to him and his mother and siblings. It's a deeply personal story and one which I thoroughly enjoyed working to bring to book form with Christopher.

He decided to write the book while serving on the front line in Afghanistan, just in case something happened to him and his young children never got to know him or his story.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!! I have been wanting an "Apollo kids" book for ages. With all respect, Rosemary Roosa's book didn't really hit the mark for me. It's too much of a 'travelogue' of all the famous people she schmoozed with after Stu left the program and then, unfortunately, died.

I am eagerly anticipating this new book. I have always wondered (hint, hint) why the Outward Odyssey series didn't do a compilation of a number of Apollo kids' experiences (Sue Ellen Bean, Dionne Stafford, the Armstrong boys etc).

That said, I cannot wait for Christopher Roosa's book!!
