As the new editor of the new-look Space Chronicle, published by the British Interplanetary Society (BIS), I would like to use this forum to inform collectSPACE members of its availability. Published quarterly, in January, April, July, and October each year, this exciting and completely revised 36-page full-color magazine will become the premier space history publication within the BIS. Membership, subscription information and further details are available from the BIS. The April 2020 issue includes the following features: - History of NASA's iconic Hubble Space Telescope and its Space Shuttle servicing missions in a celebration of Hubble 30th anniversary – Michael Bryce
- The political significance of the Chang'e 4 landing in the Von Kármán crater – Phil Mills
- The story of the US Navy's ocean-going spacecraft hunter – Dwayne Day
- Secrets of the Soviet Union's nuclear space programme – Vadim Zakirov
- A review of the Japanese lunar programme – Brian Harvey
With a letters page, vintage and new book reviews and a look into the archives from over a century of space history each issue has an international flavour of astronautical topics from the past. Contributors are warmly invited to contact me at editorchronicle@bis-space.com. |

Unfortunately, though a January 2020 issue was planned and partly prepared, this became impractical to achieve due to a number of practical issues that had to be resolved. The consequence of these reduced the time available to prepare and produce an issue in time before the April issue had to be prepared. |

Thanks Dave for that update. The future Chronicle issues most sought here are the one’s which include papers from the BIS’s annual Sino-Russian Technical Forum, will also be looking forward to getting and reading this one too. |

Thanks, Ed. Papers from future Sino-Russian Forums will indeed be featured in the new-look Space Chronicle. Those by Vadim Zakirov, Phil Mills, and Brian Harvey, listed above and published in the April 2020 issue were originally presented at last year's Forum. The plan is to continue that trend but offer much, much more as we develop the publication. There are a number of unpublished papers from recent Forums, in various stages of preparation, and scheduled to appear in forthcoming issues. The key is balance, so we also have a range of new topics in development supplemented by leading features with a truly international flavour. The long term aim is to develop Space Chronicle, and its new, exciting and fresh design, with a far broader range of content that was not available in previous issues. At the same time, it is important to ensure the rich history traditionally found within the BIS is fully utilised. |
