Really looking forward to seeing "First Man," but would be interested to know how many other films (not documentaries) have been made about Apollo 11 and or the Apollo programme.

There was a film about Apollo 11 made a long time ago (for TV I believe). My list includes "Apollo 13" and "Marooned." Can anyone add to this? Thanks.

Would the HBO mini series "From the Earth to the Moon" count?

There was the 1996 TV movie "Apollo 11: The First Steps on the Moon," which aired on The Family Channel.

There was also the 2009 History Channel movie "Moonshot," starring Daniel Lapaine as Neil Armstrong, James Marsters as Buzz Aldrin and Andrew Lincoln as Michael Collins. (Not to be confused with the 1994 TV documentary "Moon Shot," narrated by Barry Corbin.)

And in the purely fiction category, there was the 2011 feature-length horror film "Apollo 18," directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego.

There was one (A Mary Tyler Moore production) made for TV but forgotten the title. Wasn't half bad.

The MTM production is the same as the 1996 "Apollo 11" Family Channel movie mentioned above.

Thanks Gents. I have a friend in the film industry and hopefully some of these might be included for web based viewing during the Apollo 11 anniversary.

Another movie that comes to mind, the 2000 feature film "The Dish," which tells the story of Apollo 11 from the perspective of the Australians at Parkes Observatory.

I was going through some old VHS tapes that I have and ran across the Family Channel's production of "Apollo 11". I didn't see the date, but I recorded it off the Family Channel some years ago.

James Manos production with MTM Enteprises. Xander Berkley, Jim Metzler and Wendie Malick are in it.

Anyway, I rewatched it after all these years, and to be honest, I wasn't impressed. I'm a big fan of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo days, as well as Chris Kraft, Gene Kranz and Glynn Lunney, but this movie just didn't do it for me. Any thoughts from those who are familiar with the movie?

I have the 1996 TV movie recorded on DVD (but haven't seen it for a long time). I remember it as rather forgettable. I also have the 2018 film "Moonshot" on a commercial DVD. It was quite good, but the front cover shows Andrew Lincoln and his name is above the title, so I naturally assumed he was playing Neil Armstrong. I was surprised to find that he was actually playing Michael Collins, so I concluded that the producers were milking Lincoln's "nameworthiness" from "The Walking Dead."

The obvious problem faced by anyone making a film about Apollo 11 is that nobody died: very little went wrong, the goals were efficiently achieved, and the crew returned safely. Hollywood prefers it when things go horribly wrong
