I recently got some old newspapers out of storage that my parents had from the first moon landing with the intent of framing one or two of them. It got me thinking that it would me kind of interesting to see other newspaper front pages and headlines from that historic moment. If you have a newspaper in your collection from anywhere in the world from July 20-21, 1969, I'd love to see them! The examples below are from Minnesota newspapers. The first is the July 20, 1969 edition of the Minneapolis Tribune. The second is from July 21. The final is from the St. Cloud Daily Times of July 21. I have others from both papers leading up to and following the landing, but these were the most interesting examples of the collection. I find it fascinating to look through them at the ads and the other things happening locally and around the world at the same time. Anyway, I look forward to seeing other front pages, if you wish to share.

I have a copy of The Washington Post, Monday July 21, 1969. It's shrink wrapped so not easy to photo. I bought this from Buzz Aldrin's personal collection.

Do yourself a favour, rip off the plastic and READ the paper! Otherwise you will be dead one day and the paper will still be wrapped in plastic.I have about a dozen British and American newspapers reporting the Apollo 11 landing. Every now and then I carefully open them and read (or re-read) the reports. It never fails to transport me back to those magical days in July, 1969. Even looking at the non-Apollo stories for historical context is fascinating. Purists might argue that the grease on my fingers is damaging the paper, but these are newspapers. They are meant to be read. So, my advice is to rip off that plastic and soak up the atmosphere (and even the musty smell) of your nearly 48-year-old paper. |

Is the reprint on actual newspaper stock, or more like poster stock? I bet it would look nice framed.I'm trying to figure out how best to frame my papers. I'm thinking maybe just a poster frame, but then, I'm concerned about the backing not being acid-free and eventually discoloring the paper. |

The Newseum in Washington, D.C. offers some tips about framing newspapers: Framing is OK, but it's important to keep newspapers away from sunlight, moisture and insects. Use conservation quality glass or acrylic that filters out harmful UV light. Even if you use UV-filtered glass, do not place the framed newspaper in a sunny area. Make sure that the matting or backing is 100 percent cotton fiber — cotton rag matboard — and preferably buffered. Never place the newspaper on a cardboard backing. This will result in rapid deterioration. Most custom frame shops will have these materials available, so you may not have to buy them online. |

It's not newspaper stock and not poster stock. It feels like a combination of both. |

Robert, I'm very thankful you posted that information. I was considering framing my paper myself, but that information gives me great pause to doing it on my own. Minimally, if I do attempt it myself, I need to research the materials I use and do it properly to ensure preservation. |

My mom clipped and saved every article from the mission for me from our hometown paper in Decatur, IL. I was 5 years old at the time. I have scanned all of them. |

I have some newspaper clippings that were matted and framed. The shop glued them to some thick plastic, then glued it to a heavy cardboard within the large frame, Kept out of direct sunlight for 30 years, stills looks good, slight discoloration but the autographs on it still look new. |

If anyone from the area is interested, the Armstrong museum in Ohio has a large collection of newspapers from the time of the mission on display. Or at least they were on display the last time I was up there, a year or so ago. |

From the other side of the world that day... Monday for us.And according to the article at bottom right, I was supposed to be allowed to watch the telecast at home, except the principal at our High School refused to do so. There was no way I was going to miss this, so I played hooky and got to see that first step. |

My parents somehow knew I would be interested in all things space. They kept this for me until I was old enough to appreciate it. I wish I had framed it long ago. I made the frame from Jarrah which is an Australian hard wood. |
