There is a professor at a university who said that James Burke in one of his shows was interviewing astronauts, and there was a mini argument going on, on the issue of NASA spending millions of dollars while people are suffering from poverty in the world etc., then it was mentioned that certain facts were discovered about the moon, and one thing they said was the moon had been split a long time ago. Did anyone come across this?

If you did please send me the link or video name, I would be extremely grateful!

James Burke was a great broadcaster. Anyone know why he's not on television these days?

He's old. And retired.

Thanks for the video, but I watched it and they did not mention that the moon was split. The professor said it was a 1979 or 1978 video, also it isn't in the "Other Side of the Moon," parts 1 and 2 either.

Are you sure the mention of the moon being split wasn't a reference to a theological belief? That would seem more likely given that there is no current scientific evidence that the moon was split into two (or more) parts and then reassembled at any point in the past.

I'm pretty sure this could be what you're looking for: The Space Race.

It's Robin Day, not James Burke... and they certainly do get quite passionate! Hope this helps!

At 34.31, the presenter talks of the Earth being 'divided'. Maybe your Professor meant this? Everything else you mention is in this programme.

The professor said the documentary mentioned that the moon split once. So in the video you posted, it's not mentioned?

Also, one of Saturn's moons seems like it was split and then put together, although there isn't any established fact for why it happened or even if it was even split, etc.

Referring to the ridge on Iapetus, Mr. Roberts explained: "It looks like somebody screwed two halves of the moon together and did a very bad job soldering the joint."

Have you tried going back to the professor (or otherwise contacting him or her) and asking what video s/he was referencing?

All times are CT (US)
