I could be considered biased as both Jimmy and Gary are friends of mine. But, I recently spent an afternoon with them as they worked together on the book and I can truthfully say Jimmy's images are breathtaking. Combine them with Gary's layout and interface skills and this publication can't miss. They've already told me they won't give me a discount so I've started saving my pennies. |

Gary, Jimmy, Joel -- wow, what an AWESOME book. I really love the images, the quality of the product, and the integration of the audio clips with the images is just a brilliant idea! Well done. Everyone should run (not walk) and buy a copy. |

Thanks so much guys for the wonderful words. Since its release this morning, one small error has been brought to our attention. It will be corrected shortly. I'm pretty excited about this. Gary has done a fantastic job putting everything together. I hope everyone gets a chance to see it. It's one of those things I always wanted to do, but never seemed to have the time to do it. It took Gary lighting a fire under my behind to get the ball rolling. Again, thanks for the very kind words. It means a lot. |

Rich, what's your price to post your review on iTunes? That may help us sell more.ALSO - PDF versions are 700 MB, about 7x the Apple compressed format. These have been rendered at above print resolution and are worth the download time. They will print beautifully if you can't wait for our hardcover version. A password is provided with each PDF - please keep these private. Thank you very much. |

This afternoon I got my weekly "iBookstore Alert" from Apple, and it features Negative Return. How cool is that?!In the several years I've been receiving the alerts, it's the first time they've featured something I'm actually interested in |

Now. Fantastic work by Jimmy and Gary. |

Just leafed through my copy and the quality of the photos is really excellent. Jimmy has a great eye for detail and the photos that were selected for the book are beautiful. And Gary again did a great job on the layout.I am glad to be able to add this to my collection. Highly recommended! |

I'm pleased to report this book has been updated to version 1.1. This version fixes some errors and typos, adds a high def video of the STS-135 launch and finally adds an explanation of the RTLS abort scenario and the meaning of the title Negative Return as applied to the shuttle (as many had asked). If you purchased the book from iTunes the update is simple. First, open iBooks on your iPad and look for a number in the store icon indicating you have an update:
Touch that button and you're taken to the store's update page. Touch update:
The display changes back to your library and a progress bar shows the book being updated.
Have patience as the HD video is a large file itself but the sharpness and quality is worth it! While the video does not play on the PDF versions of this book, if you purchased a PDF and want to update your file please send me a note. Thank you.

Jimmy (and Gary) --Fantastic!!! I can't wait to order my book/paper version as I am very much looking forward to viewing all of the great space photography over the many years. And I must say, my friend, it has been a pleasure in sharing with you many of the space shuttle events (though mostly while at the KSC news center), especially during shuttle launches and orbiter landings here on the Florida Space Coast. Congratulations, Jimmy and Gary both, and I can't wait to see it! |

The following represents my personal thoughts and does not necessarily reflect Jimmy Brown's thoughts.I'm surprised that years of effort by Jimmy and hundreds of hours of programming by myself have not resulted in a "proper version" of this book. I hope people realize that a mass market art book retailing for $50 costs less than $5 to print. But a print on demand type of book, which is the technology needed to make a few copies, will cost Jimmy and myself nearly $50 each. Despite Negative Return being seen by thousands of people on this and other sites, and despite wildly favorable reviews we've sold less than 40 copies to date. I simply cannot fathom why people who won't pay $5.99 will pay ten times that or more for a printed version. I understand the appeal of printed books and I have a large print library myself. But I bought most of those books years ago. We have more options now. The images in this book are extremely high resolution. They look magnificent on a backlit tablet or computer screen, glowing with the light of ignition or launch. Even using the finest papers and inks they will not look this good in print. And you lose all the videos plus Jimmy's narration of what's going on behind the scenes. So where does that leave us? I don't think it would be wise to invest the money required to make 10-20 hardcover versions. Given meager sales at $5.99 I think we'd sell none at $75. And that's a very small markup - in the retail world, items that cost $50 to manufacture usually sell for over $500. How about this - if you want a printed version send me $100 by PayPal. If I get less than 10 responses (minimum order) by August 15 I will refund your money including any PayPal charges. If I get more than 10 responses I will proceed with getting these made. I expect the retail price to be $75 plus shipping. I will send you a printed copy and a refund of any overcharges within 90 days. If you live where it costs more than $25 to ship I'll ask you for the extra amount. Fair? Thank you. Please use my email listed on this site for PayPal. |

Because it's limited to iTunes? And it's no fun reading anything on anything else but paper (I don't- yeah, I've got issues ) let alone admire someone's else art. I don't understand how people can actually read a comic book on a mobile phone... And you're not buying books anymore? |

Yes, but then how much would it cost me if I were to print the 100 photos? I seriously doubt it would be as little as $100. |

Well it's difficult with printed versions... I have worked on several books and for a decent return versus good price for the customers, it looked like at least 100 to 500 books should be sold. Of course, we're all hobbyists and don't do it for the money. |

Well, I have had zero replies to my offer above. We are trying to find a lower cost solution to a printed version. We hope to have news of this within 2 weeks. |

I now have pricing from a high quality local printer. Here are THE COSTS for printing a 12" x 9" softcover version of this book - there is no markup in these numbers.10 books = $85.00 each 15 books = $70.00 each 20 books = $62.50 each Note prices do not include shipping. I will take orders until the end of August. At that time if we have 10 or more orders I'll proceed with printing. If we don't reach that I'll refund everyone's money. Looking forward to hearing from the group. Thank you. |

I just wanted to thank Gary and James for producing such a spectacular photo gallery of the STS program featuring many up-close and personal shots of these majestic vehicles during processing, launch and landing etc. They have given us through this project, the view vistas of these special vehicles that many of us would never even get close to taking with such clarity and precision. Added to that, the time that have personally taken, to take these photos and process them in an ebook or a hardcover version and then offer them to sale for us supporters and collectors of the space program at a low cost, this is an offer too good to pass on. So I encourage you all if you have not done so already, check out the preview and then purchase the e-book, PDF or show your support for a hardcover version. For those like myself who have purchased a PDF version and would like a hardcover version, be aware that James has told me that there has only been about 8 serious en queries for a hardcover version since Gary's last post. To encourage their efforts on this, I am the first one to actually pay a deposit to them for a hardcover version.I would ask that if you are serious that you would like a hardcover version, too, that you do the same. If we can get a few more hardcover orders to be placed soon, the price will be cheaper and you will have a lasting legacy of the STS program in your hands to enjoy and show your children and grandchildren what these shuttles now relegated to the museum sites, looked like in their prime serving the USA & nations of the world. Thank you again Gary and James! Richard |
