I found this on HMV in the UK: Apollo: When The World Held Its Breath. This programme was the one broadcast a few years back on Apollo 13 - narrated by James Burke (yes?).

And then I found this on the Amazon UK site.

Am I right in thinking that these are two different products? This is not available till December 2013! Is there a TV series planned by James Burke on the history of Apollo? The packaging is different. Anyone know?

I think that it's the same product as the product reviews on both websites are the same. Also this is a re-release as it was originally made several years ago. Would be interested to know why Amazon is not releasing it until 2013.

I must dig this out of my video archives. I'm sure I have a VHS copy. It is not to be confused with "Apollo 13: To the Edge and Back" which was an American production, and well worth buying on DVD.

Sigh. I see that the release date has now been put back to 31 Dec 2020?

As one obviously highly intelligent Amazon reviewer has pointed out, putting back the release date to 2020 is the same as saying: "We're not going to release this." Why they didn't just say that is beyond me.

I have a copy of this on DVD. I converted it from VHS a few years ago. If you are interested I could try posting it on YouTube. It is one of my favorite documentaries.

Would be great if you could post it.

So, just to widen this again — what was the name of the documentary that featured James Burke narrating the story of Apollo 13? It was, I think, either a Channel 4 or ITV (UK TV) production. Anyone remember?

Some mysteries will probably never be solved. In or about 2012, Amazon produced artwork for a DVD release of this excellent James Burke documentary on Apollos 11 and 13. It was supposed to be released in 2013, but was then "postponed" until the end of 2020. As some of us predicted 7 years ago, that clearly meant "never." Events appear to have proved that conclusion to be correct, as the DVD is now listed as "unavailable." Gosh! What a surprise!

It's not that I've been hanging around for 7 years to be able to say "I told you so!" This dusty old issue was resurrected last November when I received an email from Amazon (at least I assume it was from Amazon) reminding me that I had pre-ordered this documentary (I hadn't!) and confirming that it was due to be released at the end of December, 2020. Sure enough, my Amazon account showed that the DVD was listed as "pre-ordered." I cancelled the pre-order on the basis that I hadn't made it and would believe it when the DVD was actually available. I was not surprised that the entry on Amazon later changed from "available from 31st Dec. 2020" to "unavailable."

Why would Amazon waste their own time, never mind anyone else's, by promoting a DVD launch seven years in the future and then failing to follow through? Bizarre.
