Per Scott Lowther, posting to his blog, Specialty Press is ceasing publishing its original titles, effective immediately. Among the books affected: by Dennis Jenkins, et al.
- Servicing the Hubble Space Telescope
- Apollo 11 Moon Landing: 40th Anniversary Photographic Retrospective
- Space Shuttle: The History of the National Space Transportation System, Third Edition
- Hypersonic: The Story of the North American X-15
- X-Planes Photo Scrapbook
According to Lowther, a public announcement is forthcoming after Specialty Press has finished contacting its authors. They are hoping to find new homes for the cancelled titles with other publishers, but the options are few. The decision to stop publishing was attributed to the economy and the decline in demand for aviation-related books. |

I'm glad to have the books mentioned above. |

Very sorry to hear this...not least because it apparently leaves the final revision of Dennis Jenkins' authoritative STS history in limbo for want of a publisher. There's still a few Specialty Press titles on my must-buy list. <sigh> Guess I'd better jump on them while I can. |

What a shame! After seeing Motorbooks stop publishing their aviation titles, I was looking forward to seeing Specialty continue their fine line of air/space books like the ones on the X-15 and shuttle (another title is the one on Discovery's mission after Columbia, 'Return to Flight'..). |

I just emailed with Dennis Jenkins, he says he hopes to continue but of course, would have to find another publisher. With his talents it shouldn't be too terribly difficult. |

An update, courtesy Dennis Jenkins...Specialty has indicated they intend to continue as a wholesaler and distributor, so the current edition of "Space Shuttle: The History of the National Space Transportation System" -- which Jenkins self-publishes -- should remain available and he expects they will distribute the 2012 edition as well. And while they will (unfortunately) no longer publish new titles, Specialty plans to continue distributing their current books and may even reprint ones that continue to sell well. |

Ha-ha! A 4th and final edition is indeed in the works, then! |

Any further words on this much-anticipated Jenkins publication? |
