The next Alan Bean release is going to be "Home Sweet Home" (Giclee Canvas Hand-Signed by Astronaut/Artist Alan Bean; Image size: 16x30 limited to 100 s/n). Alan Bean says of "Home Sweet Home": When Pete Conrad and I came down the ladder for our first walk on the Moon, all we had with us were the clothes (and backpacks) on our backs. Most of our scientific equipment was stowed in fold-down compartments on the sides of the lunar module descent stage. Pete is working at the right front fold-down compartment, the Modularized Equipment Stowage Assembly, offloading things we will need. We've already set up the large S-band antenna to improve voice and television communications with Earth. This painting emphasizes the size of the lunar module. As I looked at it on the Moon, it seemed much bigger than I remembered just four days previously back on the launch pad of Kennedy Space Center. It was a friendly home in a faraway world. |

"Home Sweet Home" will be the November/December release. It was scheduled for September, but Alan Bean wants to do some additional painting to the original. Instead of rushing the process, The Greenwich Workshop has decided to give Alan time to do his "thing" without a pressing deadline. Pre-orders are still being accepted for "Home Sweet Home" with the understanding that it'll be a few months before delivery. Stay tuned for the announcement of the September 2010 release. |

That's because you aren't privy to all the behind-the-scenes machinations going on. Believe me, the publishers and dealers are all pulling their hair out.Apparently, the next release will be "A New Frontier" a color, artistic view of his well-known B&W photo. |

Kim (Novaspace) and Jay (ArtUSA), any idea if they will be moving back to the small works format? A bit more affordable and easier on wall space. |

I'm sure they will. No telling when. At $190/sq. inch, Alan's doing smaller stuff primarily now. It will undoubtedly be a mix of large and small giclee canvases, with scattered paper prints. Five or six releases per year. |

Why are they "pulling their hair out"? |

That is a REALLY great price! Also, $190/sq inch doesn't sound too bad either. |

Well, it brings larger paintings to over a quarter million $, which is kind of scary. |

Kim, any insight regarding what releases will be offered in print format? I find these a bit more in my budget range. |

Here's the Alan Bean release schedule for the rest of the year:September Release - A New Frontier. This is a great self-portrait of Alan Bean on the Ocean of Storms. [ArtUSA.com] December Release - "Home Sweet Home" (as pictured above). This features Pete Conrad "unpacking" on the moon. It's also a great piece. [ArtUSA.com] |

Hi Kim, would you know if Mr. Bean will be releasing any countersigned prints in the near future? Hoping for something signed by John Young. Also, why hasn't Mr. Bean painted anything from his Skylab experience? It would be cool to get something different and a break from all the Apollo works. Thanks in advance. |

Greenwich Workshop probably won't be doing any more countersigned prints, Reason: costs. Prints signed by Conrad, Cernan & Schmitt still plentiful, years later.Astronaut Central intends to invite John Young back next year for another signing. |

Wow. I'm bummed at this news. I've collected almost all of his countersigned prints. The signatures provide a great richness (no pun intended) to the print on the wall. Very sorry to hear Greenwich won't support this any more, but I understand if they're not being bought. |
