High Above: The Untold Story of Europe's Leading Satellite Company Edited by Chris Forrester The real breakthrough in broadcasting came with the creation of satellite technology. Europe's leading satellite company, SES ASTRA, arrived on the scene and the media market changed radically, allowing viewers to easily access an immense world of viewing opportunity. But the story of the satellite is more than a story of technological advancement. It is more than rockets, solar panels, decoders and dishes. The satellite fostered the emergence of an entire range of new developments in the media industry - from hardware manufacturing to programme production, and from single network domination to numerous niche channels. It meant the creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs in these sectors and the emergence of a technology, which has shaped our world and made a huge contribution to the flow of information in today's interconnected global society. And this is the story as it has never been told before - brought to light by the key players of the time, filled with fascinating anecdotes. - Springer, 1st Edition., 2010,

An update from Springer:The Springer link in the above post no longer works because eventhough the book was published in cooperation with SES ASTRA, the print run was delivered to customers directly. Copies may be available from Springer but a final agreement has been yet to be reached. | |
